Position Summary

As a Lead Hand, reporting directly to the Yard Manager, you will oversee and support daily labour activities, ensuring smooth project execution and maintaining a safe, clean work environment. While employees ultimately report to the Yard Manager, the Lead Hand plays a vital role in providing on-the-ground guidance, supervising tasks, and coordinating team activities. This role includes industrial cleaning, operating various equipment, and supporting environmental compliance.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and monitor assigned projects, coordinating team activities and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for labourers, providing guidance, instruction, and support to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of tools, equipment, and the overall work environment.
  • Lead and participate in power washing and industrial cleaning of hazardous and non-hazardous chemical wastes.
  • Assist and supervise team members in using vacuum trucks, power-washing equipment, and plant operations.
  • Conduct and supervise confined space entry and rescue, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Oversee safe offloading of trucks and efficient handling of materials.
  • Operate and train others on equipment like pick-up trucks, forklifts, and utility trailers.
  • Oversee general yard duties, ensuring a clean and safe work area.
  • Ensure materials at customer sites meet all Provincial, Federal, and customer waste management regulations.
  • Act as a liaison, addressing day-to-day operational needs and supporting the Yard Manager in project and personnel management.

Position Qualifications & Specifications

  • 2+ years in an industrial setting with supervisory responsibilities; experience in confined space entry and working at heights.
  • Knowledge of vacuum trucks, power-washing, and the waste industry is an asset.
  • Valid Class G license is required, AZ/DZ license is an asset. Certifications in lift truck, scissor lift, or zoom boom operation are preferred.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong ability to support, guide, and communicate with team members while maintaining safety and productivity.
  • Adherence to health and safety protocols with an active role in promoting a safe working environment.
