The Opportunity:

We are currently looking for Substitute Child Care Providers to join our After School Department. The Substitute Child Care Provider will play an essential role in children's learning and growth, including physical and social development, in a safe and child-centred environment by providing staffing coverage for sick time, vacation time, and breaks. You will be working with children from the age of 5 to 12 years old. As a Substitute Child Care Provider, you may be asked to provide coverage at our various centers within the Greater Saint John area and surrounding areas.

As a Substitute Child Care Provider, you can expect a range in hours from 10 to 40 hours per week, depending on shift availability. There is a potential for the opportunity to grow into a permanent role.

Minimum requirement- Able to pick atleast 6 afternoon shifts (1 pm - 6 pm) Mon - Fri per month at various locations of our After school program.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 months Experience working in a Child Care, After School, Volunteer or Youth program is required.
  • Working knowledge of computers and willingness to learn app software.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours and locations.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care facilities standards and Abuse Protocol Practices.
  • Plans and implements programming in accordance with the YMCA and New Brunswick standards.
  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to childrens learning and is responsive to research.
  • Understands each child and their familys specific needs and plans for successful outcomes.
  • Ensures that all daily routines are followed, documented, and completed in a timely fashion.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures outlined in the YMCA of Greater Saint John employee and child care policy manuals. Adheres to record-keeping as outlined by the Department of Social Development. Ensures that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Participate in quarterly training sessions to continue ongoing learning and develop new skills.
  • Other duties as assigned by your reporting supervisor.
