The Role

The Vice President of Engineering at Mode Mobile will be a key member of the executive team, reporting directly to the CEO. This role is responsible for leading the Engineering organization and driving technological innovation and strategic direction for our company. The VP of Engineering will work closely with the Product team to ensure alignment between technology capabilities and product vision. As a participant in the executive team, the VP of Engineering will collaborate closely with other executives to align technology initiatives with overall business objectives and contribute to high-level decision-making processes. The VP of Engineering will oversee all aspects of engineering and technology, ensuring that Mode Mobile's technical capabilities continue to evolve and support our mission. The VP of Engineering will also play a key role in evaluating acquisition opportunities and subsequently integrate and oversee teams and technology as part of Mode Mobile's portfolio strategy for growth.

Who You Are and What You'll Do

Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a vital member of the executive team, participating in strategic planning and decision-making at the highest level of the organization.
  • Collaborate with other C-suite executives to ensure technology strategies support and enhance business goals across all departments.
  • Develop and execute Mode Mobile's technology strategy, focusing on how we can improve the developer experience (DX) to improve the quality and speed of delivery.
  • Report directly to the CEO, providing regular updates on technology initiatives, challenges, and opportunities.

Technical Direction

  • Lead the development and implementation of scalable and secure technology systems, software solutions, and infrastructure to support our rapid growth.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of Mode Mobile, including systems architecture, software development, network infrastructure, and data security.
  • Optimize resource allocation and ensure cost-effective solutions while managing the technology budget.
  • Represent Mode Mobile's technology vision and capabilities to external stakeholders, including partners, investors, and industry events.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Directly oversee and lead Mode Mobile's entire engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Set clear goals and objectives for the engineering team, aligning them with Mode Mobile's overall business strategy and growth targets.
  • Establish and maintain best practices in software development and developer experience to increase the speed and quality of software delivery.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract, retain, and develop top engineering talent in a competitive market.
  • Mentor and guide engineering leaders, promoting their professional growth and ensuring succession planning within the organization
  • Collaborate with the People team to develop comprehensive training programs and career development paths for engineering team members.
  • Manage resource allocation within the engineering department, ensuring optimal team structure and efficient project staffing.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the engineering team and other departments, particularly product management and design.
  • Regularly assess team performance, providing constructive feedback and implementing improvement strategies as needed.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Proven experience as a VP of Engineering or similar leadership role in a high-growth technology company
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate business objectives into effective technology strategies
  • Strong background in mobile technology, preferably with experience overseeing or directly developing Android applications
  • Demonstrated experience working in small startup environments and scaling engineering teams
  • Direct experience in the mobile rewards industry or closely related fields such as mobile advertising, fintech, or digital engagement platforms
  • Expertise in software development methodologies, infrastructure management, and cybersecurity best practices
  • Experience driving digital transformation initiatives and implementing data-driven decision-making processes
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, capable of inspiring and developing high-performing technology teams
  • Track record of successfully leading large-scale technology projects, delivering results on time and within budget
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage data for informed decision-making
  • Proven ability to work closely with product teams to align technology capabilities with product vision
