Position Summary

Responsible for the creation, alteration and maintenance of GPS and CAD files to be used for survey layout, construction and as-builts. Using civil engineering drawings to prepare on-site solutions to maintain a steady workflow in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creation and modification of GPS job files using existing CAD files and plans.
  • Providing remote support to ensure successful and consistent implementation of GPS survey and machine control systems across the company.
  • Compiling as-built information from the surveyor. Working with foreman and superintendents to ensure accurate information is collected.
  • Collecting and compiling As-Built information from the field. Working with Project Managers to ensure accurate information is collected;
  • Performing Construction Layout and As-built surveying;
  • Creation of CAD files from existing site plans and files.
  • Creation of PDFs from CAD files.
  • Resolving discrepancies and ensuring jobsite accuracy;
  • Topographical survey analysis
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • CAD experience is a requirement
    • Civil 3D experience would be an asset
    • Topcon MAGNET Office experience would be an asset
    • 3D Office experience would be an asset
    • Carlson software experience would be an asset
    • Trimble experience would be an asset
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams and/or other specifications to determine work procedures is a requirement
  • 1-3 years of related experience is an asset
  • Experience in civil construction would be an asset
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field is an asset
  • Must be willing to learn and advance their skill set over time;
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime from time to time;
  • Valid G Drivers licence.

Health and Safety

  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations, and internal policies and procedures
  • Report to his or her supervisor any missing or defective equipment or protective device which could endanger any person
  • Report to his or her manager the contravention of the OHSA, regulations, or company H&S policies and procedures or any observed hazard

  • Know, understand and employ established rules and procedures for handling materials, equipment and processes (e.g. reporting unlabelled containers, using proper lifting techniques, etc.)
  • Request that worn out or defective equipment be replaced
  • Use all safety devices provided, ensuring optimum condition of devices and report any defects immediately to a supervisor
  • Use equipment and materials only in the manner intended
  • Report all injuries, incidents, hazards and unusual conditions immediately to supervisor
  • Attend all required health and safety training programs (e.g. WHMIS, orientation), and apply knowledge to daily operating procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Typical office hours: Monday to Friday 7:00 am 5:00 pm; additional weekend hours may be required to meet the needs of the business; Available by phone during working hours (7:00 am 5:00 pm)
