With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (“JBS Canada”) is one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of four locations—the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Directs and supervises Fabrication Supervisors by direct person-to-person instruction to assure correct, accurate, and timely execution of Production orders and directions of the Production Superintendent and Plant General Manager.
  • Ensures the achievement of labor standards, production schedules, and timely deliveries on all production orders by training and motivating employees and by continuous checking, evaluation, and enforcement of Good Manufacturing Principles in order to maintain both internal and external Company commitments.
  • Studies, institutes, and maintains efficient and safe work practices, procedures, facilities by cooperating with the Human Resources, Safety, Abilities and Maintenance Departments in order to maintain an accident free, high-efficiency plant operation.
  • Assures strict compliance with all quality standards; by working with Quality Assurance to ensure all production standards are met in order to maintain JBS Mission of “to be the best in all that we do “and to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Provides counseling of all Production Supervisors and plant personnel, as required; by listening to complaints and suggestions, and giving careful, thoughtful consideration to and decisions on them, in order to maintain open lines of communication which could result in performance improvement, and promote harmony within a culturally diverse workforce.
  • Counsels with Production Supervisors and team members to keep absenteeism, turnover, and safety within predetermined levels.
  • Assists in the selection, orientation, and training of all fabrication team members, evaluating performance and achievement of goals through the performance appraisal system.
  • Analyzes production operations to determine where improvements may be made which will contribute to plant profitability, reduction of claims, excessive equipment downtime, improper material flow and overall reduction of operating costs. Works with management to execute corrective action and follows up to ensure desired results have been achieved.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and Plant General Manager by expeditiously carrying out orders as assigned in order to assure the successful completion of the tasks and missions of the Operations Department.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Completion of high school required; Post Secondary Education in Business, Management Animal Science or related field will be an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years of supervisory work experience in a beef processing facility preferred.
  • Effective communication skills to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and resolve employee conflict;
  • Self-starter with good analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Flexible to work shifts;
  • Work in a cold or hot area
  • Knowledge of HACCP and Health & Safety concerns and GMP;
  • Previous experience in a food processing industry is required.
  • Criminal Record Check is required
  • Well versed in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel, is required;
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with team members and management in a clear, concise, complete, and logical manner on sometimes complex matters;
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to identify tasks and resources required to complete tasks, and the ability to complete tasks within pre-determined timelines;
  • Teamwork – ability to work effectively with colleagues and management;
  • Strong supervisory or Management skills in dealing with a wide spectrum of individuals, from production through management, efficiently and effectively
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills; Team Player
