OVERVIEW:

In this Site Construction Manager role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising construction activities for all our petroleum sites. This role will be very hands on and require someone with previous on-site construction management experience and excellent leadership to run a small team of professionals. Success in this role will be demonstrated by managing a team, the work of contractors, scheduling and budgets, all while minimizing risks. The emphasis will always be on enhancing safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of new petroleum installations and retrofits which includes but not limited to soils contamination discoveries.
  • Plan, supervise and approve work from our own forces, including all outside subcontractors for each project. Important elements within this job will be determining best methods of construction used, manpower levels required to complete work, materials to be used, efficiency of all tools and equipment, and management of work schedules.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of all trades and subcontractors for the duration of a project.
  • Work with our Site Development Manager at forming a proper project plan built on past experience, outside relationships and proper utilization of our team members. Maintaining the ongoing schedule and providing weekly updates on progress to senior leadership will be required.
  • From time to time, work with General Contractors who are hired to complete other development work projects. Scheduling and communication between this role and the role of the outside contractor will be critical to move our projects forward.
  • Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, field work packages, inspection and test plans.
  • Maintain appropriate field documentation including safety records, daily progress reports, training records, T&E and rental records, manpower reports, owner support requests, etc.
  • Understand TSSA codes and regulations.
  • Keep accurate daily records on each job. This should include, as a minimum, a record of all tests, inspections, the daily progress on the job, visitors to the job and situations that may affect the schedule in a negative way.
  • Initiate and document field testing processes, such as compaction, concrete testing & environmental sampling.
  • Complete monitoring and groundwater sampling programs utilizing a wide variety of field equipment which would include the eventual understanding of our own filtering trailer.
  • Soil and sediment sample recovery, field testing, and documentation during drilling, test pitting and remediation activities.
  • Supervise the installation of all sewer and water systems for a petroleum gas station.
  • Manage material and equipment purchases and monitor third-party provider performance and costs.
  • Oversee procurement and delivery of materials and equipment, ensuring availability as per project requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor on-site personnel, including subcontractors, foremen, and labourers, to ensure compliance with safety protocols and construction best practices.
  • Review and approve time sheets, expense reports and annual reviews of direct reports to this role.
  • Enforce at the highest standards the safety of all employees or guests entering our construction sites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • 10+ years of site supervisory experience in the following areas:
    • Fuel works which includes but not limited to installations of underground tanks, sumps, dispensers, suction systems, fuel handling equipment and related tank gauging equipment.
    • Soils contamination management.
    • Site preparation for the purposes of fuel install or development.
  • Valid PM2 and PM3 certification.
  • Must have previous experience supervising a small team.
  • Physically able to move and handle loads up to +50 lbs.
  • Must have a clean driving record (a copy of drivers' abstract may be required).
  • Must be willing to travel as required, including working away from home base as may be required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, with strong inter-personal skills. Bilingual in French and English will be considered an asset.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet and adhere to deadlines and work under strict time constraints.
