West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our High-Level Division in Alberta is currently recruiting for a Lab Technician.

The Lab Technician will provide technical support to operations, by evaluating process reliability and product quality.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare, review, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing methods
  • Complete daily physical board tests, change stamps, and verify quality specifications as per the Technical Quality Manual, for every change in product
  • Perform daily raw material testing, such as strand analysis
  • Assist in off-loading of resin and wax rail cars.
  • Monitor tank levels for resin and wax inventory control
  • Monitor nail line quality and spacing
  • Troubleshoot board quality problems, including density variations, blows, mechanical properties, etc.
  • Identify the average board weight, size change, and test the board density every shift, and communicate these results to the Control Room Operator.
  • Create and copy forms for panel tests, board measurements, tank levels and data entry
  • Print, track, and record reasons for off-grade tests as needed

What You Will Need:

  • Must have a High School Diploma

Would be considered an asset:

  • Prior finishing end, control room, or Giben operation experience is an asset
  • Operational or prior lab experience
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO-9001/14001)

Skills:

  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills, to keep and record daily logs
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to strict processing procedures
  • Personal Commitment to safety

  • The salary range for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location.
