Transit Driver – Casual Position

PWTransit is currently looking for a casual Transit Driver to join our team in Spruce Grove. You will be responsible for safely transporting passengers and must be committed to providing superior customer service. Commitment, patience, maturity, and initiative are all required qualities.

Casual drivers are on an on-call basis with variable hours available. This position will eventually lead to regular employment and offer part-time hours.

Wage: Starting at $27.26 per hour and increasing to $29.00 per hour after working 1500 hours

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transport clients in accordance with Municipal and Company policies, observing all traffic laws, safety rules and adhering to time schedules
  • Courteously and professionally interact with customers, including loading and securing mobility devices and escorting clients to and from accessible doors, answering inquiries enroute, making general announcements to customers, issue transfers, collecting correct fares and ensure valid passes are presented
  • Complete a variety of vehicle and incident reports and carry out emergency/collision procedures when required

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 or 2 driver's license with air brake endorsement
  • No criminal convictions or pending charges relating directly to the operator position
  • Significant skills dealing effectively with the public, including demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, problem solving, and sound decision-making while providing customer service
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform all duties required
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to communicate effectively with clients, caregivers and to report on incidents involving safety and/or service
  • Able to pass a comprehensive medical examination relating to the Motor Vehicle Act requirement for a Class 2 driver's license
  • Willingness to work split shifts, weekends, evenings and limited statutory holidays as needed

Additional Information

  • A good knowledge of the local area including being familiar with street names and locations within the Spruce Grove city limits is an asset
  • Previous experience in transporting persons with disabilities is an asset
  • Selected applicants will be required to participate in a comprehensive recruitment process which consists of interviews, trainability sessions, medical examinations (as required for licensing), drug and alcohol screening, criminal record and reference checks
