Vee Inc. is hiring for a Production Shift Leader for our client in Stratford Ontario.

The Production Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Production Systems and coordinating activities of Production Supervisors and workers engaged in powder metal production. All work must be done in a safe and efficient manner and comply with all Stackpole Internationals Health & Safety policies, procedures and quality systems. Working knowledge with SPS, 5S and Continuous Improvement (CI) activities are required.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide support to Production supervisors by assisting with quality issues, prioritizing product lines and staff shortages
  • Champion safety protocols in all activities, participating in improvements to safety standards where appropriate.
  • Cover as necessitated by vacations, staffing levels, necessary overtime.
  • Lead the production facility with clear priorities around safety, quality and production.
  • Advise Production supervisors to interpret and enforce company policies and safety regulations for workers.
  • Contribute in the improvement of working procedures by constantly looking for solutions to ensure the best productivity results, ensuring compliance with procedures, operating instructions and work instructions
  • Ensure Production supervisors promptly report and investigate all safety incidents, complete proper safety records, accident reports, etc.
  • Ensure all equipment is operating safely, at maximum efficiency and maintained by supporting the maintenance department and fluid technicians schedules.
  • Provide pertinent follow up information to Focus Factory Leaders, maintenance team, quality assurance team and the materials department.
  • Provide feedback to the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with Company and Customer requirements
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of products
  • Act as a first responder to production questions, issues and concerns.
  • Observe production schedules and estimate requirements for completion of job assignments. Adjust / move staff as required.
  • Confer with Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments
  • Ensure all employees are treated equally and fairly, promote and direct team-building activities for all employees.
  • Acting as management representatives in all dealings with employees, peers, customers, etc.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist Supervisors and workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals

Our requirements :

Education and/or Experience:

  • University degree or College Diploma in a related field of work, is an asset
  • 5+ years experience working in a Supervisory role capacity
  • 10+ years experience in a high volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and team building skills with the ability to increase employee engagement within the manufacturing plant
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and incorporate action plans
  • Working knowledge of the OSHA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001
  • Proven knowledge and leadership in the principles and practices of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvements and progress manufacturing disciplines
  • Strong understanding of production processes
  • Proven track record within manufacturing management
  • Proficient computer skills required, specifically in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast pace environment and manage priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both in written and verbal
  • First Aid Certification Required (or training will be required)

Language Skills:

  • Proficient in English (both spoken and written)

Work Environment (including Physical Demands):

  • Office setting (20%)
  • Production Floor Setting- Environment can be noisy with variable temperatures (i.e. extreme heat)
  • Lifting may be required from time to time
  • Work shifts may include days, afternoons, nights or continental (may vary)
  • Able to work overtime when required/requested
  • Work in a fast pace manufacturing environment
