POSITION TITLE:APTEC CASE MANAGER

LOCATION SETTING: NCNS Coldbrook Regional Office,Coldbrook NS

EMPLOYMENT ROLE: Employment & Training Support for region

POSITION SCOPE:

Reporting directly to the APTEC Manager of the NCNS Aboriginal Peoples Training & Employment Commission, the Case Managers primary role is to ensure that rural, urban off reserve Indigenous Peoples are assisted in accessing and understanding employment and training related resources to achieve long term sustainable employment or fulfill training or upgrading needs.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Typical duties associated with Indigenous client delivery consist of:

  • Accessing information for clients to help them make good labor market decisions.
  • Helping clients find the resources they need to upgrade or train in a more formal environment.
  • Implementing job finding club services, resume writing workshops;
  • Providing sessions to clients on job search strategies.
  • Referring clients for social barriers, financial planning & stress management.
  • Providing access to skill development, targeted wage subsidies, job creation partnerships, self-employment supports and opportunities, that may include a range of other supports such as child care, learning aids, etc.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with community groups and agencies.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Possess a Post-secondary degree, Human Services diploma, or proven work related experiences;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the targeted group, government agencies, community agencies/services, employers and partners;
  • Excellent time management skills and administrative record keeping skills;
  • Knowledge and practical experience with computers, photocopiers, fax, filing system and other office equipment;
  • Professional business deportment skills through telephone, in person or through correspondence, professional office dress and manner;
  • Tact and diplomacy is critical given the range of inquiries from a range of people at all levels, and the need to maintain and enhance the goodwill and reputation of the Native Council of Nova Scotia and partnering agencies.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Must react quickly to specific tasks required; Work within a broader provincial team of career development practitioners; Working hours may often exceed normal office hours, given the pressure of large volumes of work.

SALARY & POSITION TERM:

  • Salary range: $24/hr. to $26/hr. depending on experience @ 35 hrs./week; Working hours are 8:30 a.m. 4:30p.m.; hours may be flexible as there are times when meetings are held in the evening or on weekends; Holidays and vacations as per office policy; Life Insurance and Health Care Benefit Packages are available per request upon successful probation.
