ABOUT THE ROLE
Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated individual with a positive attitude to fill the position of Team Lead, Custodian. This position will play a pivotal role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Reporting to the Principal of Elsie Fabian school, the incumbent will oversee custodial operations, coordinate tasks, and ensure the school facilities meet high cleanliness standards. This is a full-time position, located in Fort McKay, AB. This position may need to work outside of regular working hours.

The Elsie Fabian School opened its doors September of 2022 and we are looking for a dynamic and passionate Educator who loves Northern Living to join the team! The school incorporates both the Dene and Cree Language, culture, and Land-Based Education where students learn about their rich local history. ABOUT FORT MCKAY
The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray. KEY RESPONSIBITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and supervise a team of custodial staff, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Coordinate work schedules, assignments, and responsibilities to ensure efficient and effective custodial operations.
- Oversee the day-to-day cleanliness and maintenance of school facilities, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with cleaning standards.
- Manage custodial supplies and equipment, including ordering, tracking inventory levels, and ensuring proper storage.
- Collaborate with the school administration to budget and plan for custodial needs.
- Ensure custodial activities adhere to safety protocols, regulations, and school policies.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Provide ongoing training to custodial staff on proper cleaning techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the custodial team.
- Communicate effectively with school administration, staff, and custodial team members.
- Address custodial concerns, inquiries, and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with the school event coordinators to plan and provide custodial support for special events and activities.
- Ensure facilities are prepared and restored after events.
- Promote and implement environmentally friendly custodial practices, such as waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Additional certification such as WHMIS or training in custodial services, janitorial management, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in custodial or janitorial roles.
- Proven experience in leadership or supervisory capacity, demonstrating the ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
- Experience in managing custodial operations in an educational or institutional setting is highly desirable.
- Experience in commercial janitorial environment
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards related to custodial activities.
- Previous experience in conducting safety inspections and implementing corrective actions.
- Experience in inventory management, including ordering supplies, tracking inventory levels, and budgeting for custodial needs.
- Proven ability to plan and provide custodial support for events and activities.
- Basic computer skills for inventory management, communication, and reporting purposes.
- Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
- Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required
- Valid class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract required
