Your role:
Reporting to the VP of Finance on an interim basis (reporting into the Director of Finance on a permanent basis upon their return from leave) you lead a management team who oversee the treasury, accounts payable, payroll, and procurement functions of the Finance & Accounting team. You also work cross-functionally within Finance & Accounting with our financial reporting, taxation, billing and accounts receivable, and business analysis teams. The Controller is a key spokesperson for the Finance & Accounting team for stakeholders both within and outside the organisation. You are responsible for identifying key issues and priorities and directly assisting the VP of Finance and senior leadership team in making solid financial decisions based on sound business metrics and professional judgement. You are an advocate and role model for change; ensuring that business structures and processes scale and reflect the requirements and needs of a fast growing, dynamic organisation.
Your responsibilities:
- Own the oversight of cash management and treasury operations including forward exchange risk management, working closely with the VP of Finance and CFO
- Oversee global disbursements, travel, and accounts payables function with a focus on managing working capital and process optimisation
- Manage global payroll, working with the Manager, Account Operations to ensure all filing and payroll deadlines are met and assist HR when necessary for payroll and compensation analyses, process and policy updates, and benefit renewals
- Act as the primary finance point of contact for Canadian Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) and United Kingdom R&D Expenditure Credit (RDEC), playing an instrumental role in organizing internal stakeholders with external advisors to ensure complete, accurate, and timely tax incentive claims
- Work closely with the VP, Revenue Operations in the preparation, review and issuance of commission and incentive payments
- Work closely with the CFO in preparing and monitoring global budgets and forecasts
- Collaborate with the Financial Reporting team to oversee the timely and accurate monthly analysis and reporting of variances between actual and budgeted revenues, margins, capital expenditures and recommend any corrective measures required to contain variances
- Act as a primary point of contact for various financial statement audits and respond to internal and external audit requests and inquiries as they pertain to treasury, accounts payable, payroll, and budgeting
- Review data prepared in response to various inquiries from management, customers, auditors, regulatory authorities and other government agencies
- Work alongside leadership in the Financial Reporting and Taxation teams to ensure financial information is complete and accurate for the purposes of global accounting and tax compliance and reporting (Canada, US, UK, Sweden, Singapore, Australia, etc.)
- Mentor, train, and develop accounting staff, as the company grows and share best practices with the accounting team
- Work collaboratively with the other managers to identify efficiencies in processes and on various ad hoc initiatives
About you:
- Qualified professional accountant (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with a strong work ethic and integrity
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and finance in a management role of similar level of responsibilities
- Experience in full cycle accounting in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) subscription billing environment is an asset
- Experience in managing people and financial operations in a high growth environment, particularly management of accounts payable and payroll functions
- Proven experience in identifying and implementing accounting process improvements is an asset
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Advanced level MS Excel proficiency, with advanced knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
- Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritise, and time manage
- Impeccable accuracy with numbers and attention to detail
- Excellent telephone etiquette and ability to write clear, concise, and formal business communications
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply cognitive thinking is a must
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion and to be entrusted with confidential information
- Clear understanding of financial KPIs for SaaS businesses is an asset
- Familiarity with NetSuite accounting system and Salesforce CRM system is an asset
Compensation:
Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia's pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values. British Columbia - Base Salary Range:$125,000—$140,000 CADWhat you can expect:
