Position Overview
Under the direction of the Food Service Manager/Food Service Supervisor provide meals that will nourish residents using standardized recipes and HACCP procedure.
Essential Duties
- Preparation of high quality, nutritious meals according to the menu plan, and the requirements as per Ministry of Long Term Care,
- Ensures that meals are an experience rather than a task,
- Follows the cleaning procedures as established by the Food Services Manager
- Maintains a safe working environment,
- Assists in the First in First Out process of food and supply products
- Works collaboratively with all Food Services workers and other departments,
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Chef Training or culinary management diploma or certificate granted by a College of Applied Arts and Technology or a private career college (preferred)
- Or a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cooked that was issued by:
- (i) the Director of Apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998,
- (ii) the Registrar of the College under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or
- (iii) the Registrar of Skilled Trades Ontario under the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; (preferred)
- Or in the reasonable opinion of the Home, have appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality cooking to perform the duties required of this position
- Food Handlers Certification provided by Public Health or certified agencies
- Good communication skills and be able to multi-task
- Must understand proper preparation techniques and know how to use commercial kitchen equipment.
- Skilled cooking work experience involving the preparation of a variety of complex foods
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
- Good interpersonal skills
- To show evidence of being focused on people's feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
- To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals' rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
- Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months), recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or Chest Xray (within the last 1 year),
- Two supervisory references required,
- COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment.
