The Position
ESW IT Advisors is a forward-thinking technology consulting firm dedicated to providing high-quality IT solutions to critical industries. In our commitment to delivering reliable and innovative technology solutions, we are seeking a skilled and proactive Operational Technology Specialist with Information Technology skills to join our team in Canada, working within the Oil and Gas sector. This role is essential in ensuring the seamless and secure operation of HMI machines that manage vital natural gas pipeline operations across British Columbia. As an OT Specialist, you will work collaboratively with Network Services and Gas Operations teams, contributing to maintaining robust network connectivity and security protocols in critical infrastructure. As an IT Technician you will work with end users to ensure they are able to perform their functions efficiently. You will also support the clients corporate IT department maintaining their infrastructure.

Location, Term and Hours
- Location: Candidates will be from the Grande Prairie area and will be providing support at various client sites within Western Alberta and British Columbia.
- Full-time position
- Hours: Some hours will be scheduled, others will be adhoc with some after-hours support required as needed
- After hours work may be required, all after hours work must be pre-approved by the client and ESW.
Primary Focus
- Assist our clients by working on a variety of OT & IT-related issues and projects, providing additional or backfill coverage when required, and providing hardware, infrastructure, and/or application support functions in the field. Support can be expected to be provided both in person as well as remotely.
- This position will require traveling to and working at remote sites.
- You will be supplied with a company fleet truck.
- You will be supplied with a mobile device to ensure our clients have support at all times.
- The successful candidate must be client centric (internal or external) and must have excellent client service skills
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
IT Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Office 365 Windows OS, PC hardware, networking, printers, personal wireless devices (Both Apple and Android), and remote access (Citrix, RSA, VPN) are required
- Supervision of third-party contractors performing IT-related installations or maintenance may be required
- Post-secondary education in a computer related discipline such as a Computer Engineering Technology diploma and at least 3 years experience in a technical support role OR an appropriate combination of education and experience required
- Comptia A+, Network + and PDI+ certifications are desirable
- Experience working within ticketing/tracking software is required.
- Experience working with Security cameras, and associated hardware.
- Point to Point Wireless experience, app virtualization knowledge, would be valuable skills
- Project coordination experience, and system deployment knowledge would be valuable skills for the candidate to possess
- Telephone, fax, data, and wireless radio communications support for remote facilities and offices may be required
- Network and fiber optic cable installation and termination experience are desirable
- Candidate must be client focused and possess exceptional client service skills
- Proficient verbal and written English skills are required

OT Key Responsibilities
As the Operational Technology Specialist, you will play a vital role in maintaining and securing essential infrastructure systems. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing HMI systems and ensuring consistent operational standards. This role demands a proactive and hands-on approach, where technical expertise in server management, network connectivity, and system security will be essential.
- Manage and secure HMI machines critical to natural gas pipeline operations throughout British Columbia.
- Perform regular patching and security updates to HMI machines, maintaining strict security protocols.
- Coordinate with Network Services and Gas Operations teams to manage on-site network configurations, ensuring continuous and secure connectivity to prevent operational disruptions.
- Conduct troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on HMI hardware as required, ensuring reliable performance.
- Execute annual preventive maintenance tasks to uphold Active Directory (AD) account security across platforms.
- Oversee infrastructure backups using Veeam, ensuring data integrity and system reliability.
- Build, configure, and maintain servers powered by ESXi and Server 2019+, meeting system requirements and performance standards.
- Manage Windows 10 desktops, applying expertise to optimize functionality and resolve technical issues.
OT Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience
We are seeking a candidate who combines technical proficiency with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of both OT systems and IT network management, as well as the ability to work well in dynamic, high-stakes environments.
- In-depth experience managing and securing HMI systems, especially within pipeline or similar operational environments.
- Proficiency in server management, including ESXi and Server 2019+, with a focus on performance optimization and security.
- Skilled in network configuration and maintaining reliable site connectivity in partnership with cross-functional teams.
- Strong background in data backup solutions, particularly using Veeam.
- Proficient in Windows 10 desktop management, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for coordinating across technical and operational teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to ensuring uninterrupted operations

Working Conditions
- This position may require the successful candidate to stay in client-provided camps or hotels at times
- This position may require the successful candidate to travel extensively
- Camps supplied by the client have a zero-tolerance policy regarding drugs and alcohol (dry camps)
- This position requires the successful candidate to be physically capable of lifting up to 70 lbs.
- The successful candidate must be capable of operating a motor vehicle and have a clean drivers abstract
- Schedule will vary depending on location being supported
- Unscheduled or after-hours support may occasionally be required
- The successful candidate must comply with the safety standards of ESW and/or its clients

Additional Comments
- Required safety certifications include H2S Alive, First Aid and WHMIS. These must be obtained prior to traveling to any client field sites. Other safety certifications may be required by certain clients.
- Background checks and other assessments are conditions of employment.
