Position Description:
- To educate the residents and visitors of Norfolk County on how to be safe in, on, and around water
- To plan and conduct educational and interactive water safety community events at various locations throughout Norfolk County
- To plan and conduct interactive presentations at the schools in Norfolk County
- To plan and conduct activities and events for Drowning Prevention Week at various locations
- To perform administrative functions as directed
- To present and maintain a positive image at all times
- To provide leadership and an enthusiastic attitude as Norfolk County's ambassador for water safety
- To plan and conduct fundraising events, as well as, solicit and obtain sponsorships for events
- Attend aquatic division meetings and in-house training sessions that are organized by the Supervisor, Aquatics
- Participate in team building with all staff
- To engage the community with social media campaigns on water safety education and drowning prevention including Norfolk County's water safety website.
- To work with community partners in the promotion of water safety and assist with the establishment of a Drowning Prevention Coalition
- Works according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Lifesaving Society Standards, and corporate policies and procedures
- To complete reports and recommendations for all water safety events
- To provide information, pictures and statistics for Norfolk County's submission for the Lifesaving Society's Water Smart Award
- To provide professional and courteous customer service at all times
- This position will also perform instructional and guarding duties as required
- To supervise and provide direction to student staff when assisting with community water safety initiatives
Requirements
Qualifications: *All qualifications need to be current
- One (1) year experience as a Supervising Instructor Guard
- Standard First Aid with C.P.R. Level C., A.E.D.
- National Lifeguard certification
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
- Lifesaving Society Instructor
- Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training (an asset)
- High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development (an asset)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of Recreation Management Software, preferably XPLOR/Perfect Mind considered an asset
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must have Class G2 Driver's License
- Excellent time management, problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be self-directed and able to manage various projects with deadlines
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage other team members at community water safety events.
- Ability to communicate effectively to people of all ages
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Must be flexible and able to adapt presentations for select groups
- High degree of alertness and vigilance with attention to detail as it relates to the pool environment
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment and have a basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Note:
Recreation and Aquatics is a 7-day operation. Must be available and willing to work early mornings, days, weekends, evenings and holidays.
Employment is conditional upon attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
Applicants must submit a criminal record check (dated within the last 3 months) from their local police service for approval prior to commencing employment.

Benefits

Hours: 35 hours per week

Duration:
The duration of this contract will be approximately 4 months. Applicants are expected to fulfill the entire contract period commencing May 5, 2025 until August 29, 2025.
