Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Senior Estimator leads the execution of complex construction estimates. This role involves preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and quotes for various projects while overseeing the entire project tendering process. The Senior Estimator leads the Estimating team in the creation of RFP documents, solicits bids from trades, and ensures accurate analysis of project specifications, construction drawings, and bid documents.
This individual is responsible for completing detailed takeoffs, collecting and comparing quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, and evaluating and leveling tender bids. Leveraging their creativity, they will develop innovative estimating solutions while bringing passion to their work. Primary Responsibilities:
- Act as the lead estimator on multiple complex construction projects throughout design-build, construction management, or stipulated sum project types
- Confidently act as lead through project procurement, bid packages, and throughout preconstruction
- Be responsible for the project tendering & costing processes
- Create RFP documents and solicitation of bids from trades
- Analyze project specifications, construction drawings, and bid documents
- Assemble accurate, detailed, and well-organized budgets and estimates
- Mentor junior estimating staff
- Complete detailed takeoffs for estimates
- Collect, compare and analyze different quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Evaluate and level tender bids
- Conduct regular risk assessments with a view to proactively managing increased costs or delayed schedule in construction projects.

Secondary Responsibilities
- Identify labor, material, costs and time requirements on a project basis by researching proposals, recent invoices, drawings, and any related documents
- Revise cost estimate reports to reflect design changes, client needs, or when the availability of materials or labour changes
- Advising preconstruction and operations teams about opportunities to improve cost-effectiveness of construction
- Constantly strive to improve company processes and the quality of the finished product
- Mentor and support the development of junior team members, providing guidance and technical assistance to help them build their skills.
What you bring to York:
- A minimum of 5 years experience as an estimator
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Construction Engineering Technology diploma preferred
- Experience working on Design-Build projects in a variety of sectors light industrial and commercial experience preferred
- Proficient understanding of current building systems, materials, and building codes
- Proficient understanding of financial aspects of construction including estimating, budgeting, cost control and reporting
- Capable of anticipating constructability issues in moderate to complex situations and thinking outside the box to create solutions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced organization continually meeting deadlines
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations
