NOTE:

The following are the shifts available:

Afternoons: Must be available between the hours of 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm (Shifts are either 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm & 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Those who start at 1:00 pm must be able to drive as this shift is responsible for school pick ups)

Weekends: Must be available between the hours of 6:00 am - 11:00 pm

To be considered, you must have a driver's license and a valid criminal record check with the vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months, and an Alberta Child Welfare/Intervention Record Check completed within 6 months.

Summary of Position:

The Child Care Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary team which assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates treatment plans for a given child. Employees with this designation perform front-line work in the program and carry the responsibility for the daily care, treatment, nurturance, supervision, health, and discipline of the children. The Child Care Worker position is responsible for helping improve the physical, emotional, and social development of vulnerable children and youth at Anew Centre for Healing. The role is extensive and carries with it responsibilities in the counselling, teaching, and training areas, as well as recording and reporting. You will provide supervision and therapeutic support through effective, engaging, transparent professional relationships. You would be working with children between the ages of 2-10.

Routine/Responsibilities

  • Administration of medication and first aid procedures as per Policies and Procedures of Anew Centre for Healing;
  • Supervision of children and youth both within a home setting and community setting;
  • Assisting children with schooling, recreation, and structured programming as outlined by the support team;
  • Ensure the home is maintained in a clean and tidy state and complete safety checks while on shift;
  • Follow meal plans and prepare as required by following the Canadians Indigenous Food Guide and Menu Plan;
  • Maintain structure, consistency, and effective follow-up on house rules, routines, and appropriate therapeutic interventions as required;
  • Professional report writing and documentation of behavior, daily activities, medical, etc;
  • Engaging children in a healthy lifestyle through physical activities, as well as indoor activities such as board games, puzzles, etc;
  • Providing direction and guidance through role modelling, verbal redirection, physical redirection, and use of consequences as needed;
  • Ensure all individual program development that is client specific is promoted, utilized, encouraged, and documented;
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment within the centre by implementing structure, consistency, and predictability;
  • Implement strategies (i.e. de-escalation techniques, life skills, life space teaching, etc.) and participate with the children/youth in planned daily activities;
  • Develop positive therapeutic relationships with the children and youth through processes that include positive role modeling and mentoring;
  • Perform additional tasks or duties as directed by the Team Supervisor or Management.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in a Human Services field (Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology) would be considered an asset.
  • Current (6 months or newer) and Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Clearance.
  • Current (6 months or newer) Child Welfare (Intervention) Record Check.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR training.
  • Valid Drivers License and Clear Drivers Abstract (no distracted driving tickets)
  • Effective communication skills and crisis management skills with the ability to problem solve independently.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to a variety of situations and children/youth needs.
  • Must have effective time management skills.
  • Must be flexible to attend mandatory training.
  • Must have own reliable transportation with $2 million liability coverage.
