The Senior Estimator reports to and is administratively accountable to the home office Chief Estimator. Estimates will be organized and overseen by the Chief Estimator, whose responsibilities cover all activities of the estimating process.

The Senior Estimator has the primary responsibility in the fulfillment of PME's bidding requirements that includes:

  • Scheduling and chairing of the estimating planning and coordination meetings.
  • Set up and maintenance of the estimating software.
  • Development of Subcontractor and Vendor relationships.
  • Coordination of the estimating team.

In the position of Senior Estimator, we would ask you to do the following:

  • Plan the estimating function to establish an affective organization.
  • Direct the overall estimating process of the bid.
  • Provide leadership to promote coaching of the estimating team.
  • Accountable for development of forecast costs, and to implement control procedures.
  • Ensure that the bid package is complete and determine that a bid or no bid decision is made.
  • Develop checklist to coordinate estimating team and set up electronic job files.
  • Perform risk assessments and validate insurance requirements.
  • Review Quality Control and Safety requirements.
  • Attend Pre-Tender Site Visits.
  • Define Subcontract scopes, Request For Quotes and evaluations thereof.
  • Oversee material and labour takeoffs.
  • Set up Bid2Win software for the estimate input.
  • Prepare preliminary construction schedule and manpower histograms.
  • Prepare all submission documents such as execution plans, bonds, qualifications, charge out rates and etc.
  • Establish timely 30% & 100% management reviews of the estimate.


Sounds challenging and exciting right? Here are a few of the attributes and experience you need to be successful in this position:

  • Engineering Degree or Technologist Certificate
  • Five or more years of experience civil and heavy earthworks background (industrial preferred)
  • Strong computer and experience with the following software considered an asset:
    • Bid2Win
    • Microsoft Projects
    • Excel
    • Proprietary Software
    • Primavera
  • Ability to mentor Junior Estimators and Field Engineers.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong background in Industrial earth works and concrete works.

Education: Civil Engineer Degree or equivalent experience is an asset.
