Job Description

As a Warehouse Associate, you will be responsible for picking, packing, and shipping customer orders as well as counting, verifying, receiving, and putting away incoming vendor material and customer returns. A high attention to detail will ensure exceptional levels of customer service and satisfaction.

As a driver you will be responsible for 2-3 out of town delivery schedules each week with the potential of an over night stay weekly.

The Driver loads trucks, makes deliveries and pickups at customer and vendor locations. They must work safely following all laws and rules at all times. Drivers are friendly, observant and are able to determine customer needs and communicate that information back to the Profit Centre Manager or Warehouse Supervisor. Driver's also help with warehouse duties including shipping/receiving material and warehouse operations.

Additional duties will include:

  • Follow all Health and Safety rules and legislation while performing job functions
  • Load and unload trucks, operate forklift and other material handling equipment
  • Drive the Emco truck, operating safely and in compliance with company policy, applicable traffic laws and provincial Ministry of Transportation legislation. Destinations include job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other Emco locations, other wholesaler facilities and any other location as directed by management.
  • Complete pre-trip inspections and inform management of any mechanical problems with the truck. At the end of the workday complete your driver's log.
  • Understand the shipping documents, including WHMIS that are associated with the material for each delivery
  • Unload the correct material at each location and place it where the receiving party wants it. Obtain signature from receiving party.
  • Work with customers at delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately.
  • Load the truck at other locations with material. This includes material picked up at vendors and returns by customers.
  • Provide sales leads by noting prospective customers discovered in the course of making deliveries.
  • Understand and follow all safety regulations at all customer locations as well as at the Profit Centre.
  • Receiving duties include:
    • Upon unloading vendor shipments or customer returns, obtain the packing slip and verify material received. Note any discrepancies or damaged material
    • Print and verify the computer receiving documents and enter material received into the computer system
    • Identify special order material and damaged material and store in proper location
    • Note all shipping discrepancies on freight carrier's Bill of Lading, initiate freight claims and forward paperwork to appropriate teammate
  • Picking, packing, and shipping duties include:
    • Pick material for customer orders, counting and comparing items to the shipping documentation
    • Assemble material and pack appropriately for pick up or shipment to customer
    • Complete documentation for any shipments being delivered via third party carrier or requiring Transportation of Dangerous Goods documentation
  • Notify the team of any inventory discrepancies and damaged/defective material that would impact customer service levels
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and safety by removing empty cartons, metal banding, pallets, and other debris
  • Inform the Profit Centre Manager of any safety issues within the warehouse
  • Assist teammates in servicing customers at the counter
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Profit Centre Manager
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; College and/or University degree an asset
  • A minimum of 2 years of driving experience with a valid G license, clean driving record; DZ license an asset
  • Knowledge of CVOR and clean CVOR record
  • Experience driving a 5 ton truck
  • Know the laws and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general and commercial vehicles subject to Provincial Ministry of Transportation regulations.
  • Understanding of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods act
  • Outstanding customer service and verbal communication skills
  • Able to develop comprehensive product knowledge
  • Ability to learn to safely operate a forklift and any other material handling equipment
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail and accurately process orders
  • Able to learn and operate the applicable software system used to process orders
  • Intermediate math skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience with or knowledge of plumbing and building products sold at the Profit Centre
  • Experience using Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams and Outlook
