Job Summary: The Senior Manager of Finance is a leadership role responsible for transforming and optimizing the finance function, fostering a culture of excellence, and aligning with the company values. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role involves standardizing financial processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and building a high-performing finance team. The Senior Manager of Finance plays a strategic role in preparing the department for future growth. Role and Accountability:
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal tax laws, and manage audit processes.
- Act as a culture champion, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performance environment within the finance team.
- Oversee the grower payment process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Lead financial crisis management and scalability initiatives to support growth and minimize operational disruptions.
- Prepare and present financial reports to stakeholders, providing insights and strategic recommendations.
- Lead by example to build trust, respect, and accountability across the organization.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of top performers who align with the company's vision and values.
- Drive the standardization of financial processes, ensuring efficiency and scalability across all functions (AP, AR, payroll, month-end close, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance to develop and implement best practices, reducing inefficiencies and leveraging automation tools.
- Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership, aligning financial goals with business objectives.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, ensuring robust financial planning and analysis.
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance to refine long-term financial strategies.
- Identify and nurture talent pipelines, empowering team members to take on increased responsibilities.
- Build a future-ready finance team by offering coaching, training, and leadership opportunities.
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial reports.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain a strong system of internal controls.
- Optimize the financial close process and monitor key performance metrics.
- Spearhead the integration of financial systems, leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency and visibility.
- Oversee the optimization of financial tools and platforms to support business growth.
- Foster cross-departmental relationships to align financial initiatives with overall organizational objectives.
- Facilitate regular team meetings, one-on-ones, and collaborative discussions to ensure clarity, alignment, and continuous improvement.
- Model and reinforce company values by exhibiting humility, drive, and a solutions-oriented approach.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement, empowering employees to identify inefficiencies and implement innovative solutions.
- Ensure that Business Support Services (BSS) sends timely new hire announcements, job postings, and termination notifications via email.
- Personally acknowledge and welcome new hires, ensuring a warm and supportive introduction to the company.
- Congratulate employees receiving promotions, recognizing achievements and fostering a positive work culture.
- Facilitate Level 10 meetings and individual one-on-ones with direct reports to ensure alignment with company goals and foster continuous improvement as outlined in the Performance Management Policy.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within your department by identifying inefficiencies, implementing process enhancements, and driving innovation in financial operations.
- Ensure alignment across operational activities by facilitating cross-functional collaboration and communication.
- Lead by example, setting a high standard for others by living the company's values, fostering a culture of respect, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including senior leadership, to address challenges, identify actionable solutions, and align financial strategies with overall organizational objectives.
- Utilize Microsoft To-Do for task tracking and reminders to ensure efficient organization and completion of daily tasks, promoting productivity and accountability within the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and process optimization.
- Proven ability to align financial strategies with business goals.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Analytical and strategic thinking with a focus on problem-solving.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, financial tools, and Microsoft Office.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master's or CPA preferred).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience in process improvement methodologies (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) is a plus.
