Literacy Specialist Education Department
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a passionate Literacy Specialist who is organized and looking for an enriching experience to be part of the Elsie Fabian School team. The Literacy Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering and improving literacy skills among students in collaboration with teachers and parents. This is a full-time temporary position, from February 2025 until June 2025, reporting directly to the Principal of Elsie Fabian School, located in Fort McKay, AB.
KEY RESPONSIBITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Work closely with educators, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure that students receive targeted and comprehensive literacy instruction.
Provide expertise, support, and resources to enhance reading and writing instruction.
Develop literacy curriculum, and promote a culture of literacy within the school community.
Assess students' skills, abilities and learning requirements.
Possess knowledge and skills in evidence-based instructional practices in literacy and numeracy
Design and implement Individual Program Plans
Create a classroom characterized by inclusion, equity and differentiated instruction
Establish a strong positive connection with students outside the classroom (ie. clubs and teams)
Build positive and collaborative relationships with students, parents and colleagues
Create an effective team with educational assistants, parents and multidisciplinary professionals
Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth
Apply the Alberta Teaching quality standards
Other duties as assigned
KEY REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor's Degree in Education
Holds a valid Alberta Teacher's Certificate
Extensive Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an asset
Ability to speak, read and write Cree and/or Dene considered an asset
