Responsibilities:

As a Carpenter at Atkinson Construction, you will have the opportunity to showcase your expertise and contribute to the success of our projects. Here are some of the tasks and abilities you'll be responsible for:

  • Drive project progress to meet deadlines, performance targets, and quality goals.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to provide updates on work completed by subcontractors and ACL staff on-site.
  • Promptly report any on-site issues or potential concerns to the appropriate parties.
  • Act as a secondary contact for site-related matters when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment for all personnel, adhering to safety regulations set by Atkinson Construction Ltd and OHS.
  • Assist in completing safety reports, daily site records, and other documentation as required for submission to the office.
  • Monitor and replenish first aid supplies, ensuring a safe and well-equipped work environment.
  • Foster a culture of safety by promoting safe work practices and providing guidance to coworkers.
  • Participate in safety and progress meetings, actively contributing to the achievement of daily and project goals.
  • Ensure site security when the last person leaves, coordinating access for trades as needed.
  • Conduct equipment monitoring for maintenance, safety, and operational concerns, taking appropriate actions when necessary.
  • Facilitate on-site training and task completion, sharing your knowledge and skills with colleagues.
  • Issue violations or warnings to subcontractors or individuals on-site, as required.

Skills/Qualifications:

We are seeking professionals who possess the following skills and traits or are willing to learn them:

  • Proficient in reading blueprints (seek clarification from supervisors when needed).
  • Experience in brick veneer installation, snow removal, and demolition.
  • Skilled in wood framing, interior and exterior woodwork, and formwork for concrete.
  • Knowledge of rebar layout and tying, hoarding, and building and concrete work heating.
  • Familiarity with equipment operation and various concrete-related tasks.
  • Installation expertise in hardware, doors, washroom accessories, and handicap requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to accomplish tasks.
  • Experience in setting up temporary site installations such as lighting, power, heat, and air movement.
  • Valid driver's license (including drivers abstract, if driving company vehicles).
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with supervisors and trades.
  • Willingness to learn project contract details from supervisors to ensure project understanding.
  • Proactive in informing supervisors about material requirements and necessary items for current and future tasks on-site.
  • Knowledge of thermal and moisture systems installation, wall liner, and roof metal systems.
  • Attention to detail to identify and report incorrectly installed elements or areas needing improvement.
  • Proficient in fire caulking, fire separation, and related installations.
  • Strong people skills and a cooperative team attitude.
  • Leadership capabilities to assist in fixing deficiencies and achieving daily and project goals.
  • Preparedness and commitment to continuous learning, teaching, mentoring, and personal growth within a team environment.

Additional Details:

  • 8 hour shifts.
  • This is an "on-the-road" type role requiring travel.
  • 2 week-on, 1 week-off shift.
