Civil Construction Traffic Control Professional

Milestone Equipment Contracting Inc is currently seeking a motivated and experienced Traffic Control Person to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorists in and around construction zones. The Civil Construction Traffic Control Person will be responsible for directing traffic, setting up and maintaining traffic control devices, such as cones and signs, and communicating with construction crews to coordinate traffic flow. Additionally, they will be required to follow all safety protocols and regulations, including wearing appropriate safety gear and flagging vehicles as necessary. The ideal candidate will have experience in traffic control, knowledge of traffic laws and regulations, and strong communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Traffic Direction: Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic safely around construction sites using hand signals, flags, and signs to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and minimize congestion.
  • Setup and Maintenance: Set up and maintain traffic control devices, including cones, barriers, signs, and barricades, in accordance with regulatory requirements, project specifications, and traffic management plans.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with construction crews, motorists, pedestrians, and supervisors to coordinate traffic flow, provide instructions, and address concerns or issues as they arise.
  • Safety Enforcement: Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations by enforcing speed limits, controlling access to work zones, and flagging vehicles to stop or proceed as necessary.
  • Hazard Identification: Identify and report potential hazards, such as uneven surfaces, obstructions, or dangerous conditions, to supervisors and construction crews to mitigate safety risks.
  • Traffic Monitoring: Monitor traffic conditions and patterns to anticipate changes and adjust traffic control measures accordingly to maintain safety and efficiency.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, accidents, or incidents involving traffic within construction zones, providing assistance and coordinating with emergency services as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of traffic control activities, including traffic counts, incidents, and equipment inventory, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and project documentation standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections of traffic control devices and equipment to ensure functionality and safety, reporting any defects or issues for repair or replacement.
  • Training and Compliance: Stay informed about relevant traffic control regulations, standards, and best practices, participating in training programs and maintaining required certifications to ensure compliance and proficiency.

Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

  • Certification: Valid Traffic Control Ticket
  • Knowledge of Traffic Laws: Understanding of local traffic laws, regulations, and standards pertaining to traffic control in construction zones, including speed limits, signage requirements, and flagging procedures.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with construction crews, motorists, pedestrians, and supervisors, providing clear instructions and guidance.
  • Decision-Making Abilities: Ability to make quick and sound decisions under pressure, such as directing traffic flow, responding to emergencies, and prioritizing tasks to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Physical Fitness: Good physical condition to stand for extended periods, perform manual labor, and lift and move traffic control devices and equipment as needed.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to set up and maintain traffic control devices accurately, follow instructions precisely, and identify potential hazards or safety concerns.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to work in various weather conditions and adapt to changing traffic patterns, construction activities, and project requirements as needed.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with construction crews, supervisors, and other traffic control personnel to achieve common goals and objectives.
