The ideal candidate is a professional with an entrepreneurial spirit that regards themselves as an advisor as much as they are a bookkeeper. Based within the Bookkeeping Department, they will work closely with the Assurance team, to ensure all bookkeeping tasks are accurately completed when scheduled in order for financial statements to be accurately produced by the assurance department.
The responsibilities for the Staff Bookkeeper are as follows:
- Manage, record, and track finances for a portfolio of clients.
- Full cycle accounting including all areas as outlined below under, “Details”.
- Develop an understanding of the client's business as it relates to bookkeeping projects that will assist in the timely completion of assurance, audit and tax projects.
- Be a trusted advisor to clients for all bookkeeping functions that they are in need of.
- Provide timely, high quality, exceptional service to our clients.
- Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency and relevant provincial ministries on client issues.
- Correspond with team members and clients in response to specific corporate tax queries.
- Prepare cash flow statement, balance sheet and income statement for managers/partners review on monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis.
- Assist assurance team with CRA audits.
- Preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Set up client account in QBO, or complete bookkeeping functions on clients accounting system.
- Maintain an organized filing system for all client files, including completion of bookkeeping checklists.
- Provide support to clients on general questions regarding bookkeeping issues.

Banking
- Accounts reconciliation (bank, credit card, merchant, line of credit, investment, etc.).
- Keep record of continuity of investments, make appropriate entries and reconcile on monthly/quarterly/yearly basis.
- Review of outstanding cheques.
- Review of undeposited funds account.
- Create and print cheques.
Accounts Payable
- record bills.
- pay bills.
- reconcile vendors' statement.
- issue T5018s to subcontractors.
Inventory
- physical inventory counts on yearly basis.
- reconcile inventory at year end date.
Accounts Receivable
- create invoices and credit notes.
- receive payment.
- make deposits.
- generate customer statements.
Payroll
- set up payroll information.
- pay employees.
- calculate and remit payroll source deductions.
- issue ROE's.
- issue T4s and T4 Summary.
- calculate and remit WSIB.
- calculate and remit EHT.
Taxes
- calculate, file and remit payment for retail sales tax (GST/HST/QST, etc.) on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis;
- remit corporate tax instalment and reconcile the GL account.
- communicate with Canada Revenue Agency on various matters.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a bookkeeper is mandatory.
- Previous experience at a public accounting firm is preferred but not mandatory.
- Completion of a University or College, business-related program, or completion of the QuickBooks Pro-Advisor program is considered an asset.
- General interest in technology and learning new applications.
- Experience in migrating data form QB Desktop and Sage to QB Online.
- Highly personable and great communication skills.
- A team player who is willing to help improve processes.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, QuickBooks Online, and Sage.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
- Ability to work autonomously and with little direction in a high volume, fast paced environment.
- High accountability for work completed.
