Who we are? We are a leader in First Nation Health. Our foundation is Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands. We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services and health promotion services. We have recently been approved as the first Indigenous led Ontario Health Team by the Ministry of Health.
The opportunity: Home Support Workers help with activities of daily living, managing everyday tasks for people who are faced with health-related issues or aging or isolation. This position provides the opportunity to work towards Personal Support Worker certification.
Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services provides primary health, traditional healing, mental health, home and community support services and health promotion services to community members of the seven First Nations of the Mamaweswen North Shore Tribal Council, is inviting applications for Home Support Workers to join the Home and Community Support Services Team.
What you need to bring with you:
- Experience working with the elderly in a community setting.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited direction.
- Exercise good judgment, problem-solving skills.
- Available for after-hours and weekend shifts and holidays.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of the First Nation cultural values and traditions and ability to speak Ojibway is an asset.
- Ability to meet the physical demand of the position is required.
- Must have a valid drivers license and access to a personal vehicle.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meal planning and preparation
- Escorting to medical appointments
- Escorting to social events
- Medication reminders
- Light housekeeping and laundry
- Watchful companionship and friendly visiting

What to expect? Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time to time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar may occur.
