MANAGER, SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY & ENGAGEMENT

As a leader within the broader environment, climate and sustainability team, reporting to the Director of Sustainability Performance, you will shape and progress West Fraser's sustainability strategy and deepen relationships with key stakeholders and business partners including senior operational leaders, employees, suppliers and customers. As an ambassador for West Fraser's sustainability strategy, you will represent our values and brand across a global landscape, as well as throughout the business, to prepare the organization for emerging and material ESG requirements, ensure directional alignment, and strengthen our collective culture of sustainability.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Effectively define, and map, material value-chain sustainability risks, opportunities and stakeholder groups, from sourcing through product development and use lifecycle.
    • Provide focus recommendations for engagement and performance improvement.
  • Establish a sustainability value chain engagement strategy aligning with West Fraser's sustainability goals and policy requirements including:
    • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions across all scopes,
    • Upholding our commitment to responsible forest management, to the environment and to people and society, particularly in communities we serve,
    • Strengthening relationships with diverse and strategic partners, and
    • Upholding the United Nation's ten guiding principles for business on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
  • Improving and supporting systems development to effectively organize wood product information such as sourcing, traceability and environmental attributes to demonstrate product differentiators, lifecycle benefits/details, and serves a broad audience for sustainability engagement.
  • Create annual management review process that includes awareness material for other functions internally and shareable material for building customer and supplier relationships.
  • Provide market intelligence, benchmarking and recommendations to support conformance to domestic and international sustainability standards and frameworks related to current and future financial disclosures, such as EU Deforestations Regulation (EUDR) and Corporative Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), with a value chain focus.
  • Synthesize ESG rating agency corporate summaries, developing a plan to improve performance and ensure alignment across the business and value chain.
  • Collaborate with environment, climate and energy team representatives, as well as operational leadership, to improve operationalization of sustainability goals and targets.
  • Complete product, investor and due diligence surveys as required
  • Participate in membership resource platforms, Industry associations, sustainability partnerships (e.g. UN Global Compact), resources and tools to enhance awareness and strengthen sustainability culture.
  • Lead the creation of an ESG key messaging and external engagement library to support the engagement with stakeholders including rating agencies, customers, investors, memberships, etc., and compliments the strategic issues management process and disclosure framework.
  • Establish plan and materials to support broader company learning and engagement to enhance sustainability awareness and performance, corporate governance, sustainability culture, and risk management across our global set of operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ESG disclosure and associated value-chain engagement to propel West Fraser's sustainability performance and leadership in our sector.

Compensation Package:

  • The salary range for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location. The yearly salary range is between $$109,000 to $130,000
  • Annual bonus opportunity
