Trauma Informed Mental Health Counsellor (Full Time)

Native Healing Centre - Health Services
The Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC) requires a Trauma Informed Mental Health Counsellor. This is a full-time temporary opportunity at the Native Healing Centre and operates as part of a multi-disciplinary team and holistic support services to Indigenous clients. This position will be centered around providing counselling support to IRS survivors and their descendants.
DUTIES
The range of duties will include:
- Provide 1:1 counselling support for IRS survivors and their descendants.
- Participate in and host counselling workshops for clients.
- Provide crisis intervention and 'on duty' services as needed to caseload.
- Offer trauma informed education and support for clients and families.
- Work in partnership with community agencies, and other PGNFC services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Social Work, Counselling or Human Services related field.
- Experience working in the Aboriginal community.
- Strong understanding of Intergenerational Trauma, and trauma informed practice.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and support skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literacy and strong record keeping skills.
- Ability to work in a team setting and work independently.
- Criminal record check is a requirement.
- Preference will be given to qualified applicants of Indigenous ancestry. In accordance with section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code.
- Our starting wage is $31.00 - $34.00/hour based on qualifications and experience.
