As the K-12 Education Coordinator, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring KFN children receive a high-quality education that aligns with Katzie culture and teachings. You'll be the key to fostering a supportive and inclusive educational environment, promoting community involvement, and helping students achieve their full potential.
What You'll Do:
- Support Parents and Students: Be the go-to person for educational support, ensuring students and parents have the resources they need.
- Collaborate with Educators: Work closely with teachers, principals, and school administrators to help KFN children thrive.
- Maintain Communication: Keep parents informed about educational updates and opportunities.
- Manage Student Files: Ensure all student records are accurate and up to date.
- Facilitate Initiatives: Oversee school supply support, transportation needs, and other educational programs.
- Build Relationships: Foster strong connections with school district leaders and support staff.
- Promote Inclusivity: Create a welcoming environment for Indigenous students and their families.
- Plan Events: Organize key educational events like career fairs, awards ceremonies, and parent-teacher conferences.
What We're Looking For:
- Knowledge acquired through post-secondary education in education administration or a related field, along with two years of relevant progressive work experience. Equivalent combinations of education, work experience, or comparable lived experience will also be considered.
- Experience working with First Nation communities and understanding the unique educational needs.
- Strong knowledge of the BC school system and funding available to students.
- Excellent communication skills, including leading discussions, negotiating, and convincing others.
- Outstanding organizational abilities, adept at prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Strong capability to maintain high confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Adobe and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Able to work and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and expertise levels.
- Great people skills, including building relationships, mediating, and solving conflicts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex information in simple terms for different audiences.
- Works well both independently and as part of a team, using good judgment to complete tasks.
Other Requirements:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector).
- Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
