Headquartered in Stoney Creek, the plants have design, mold, paint, assembly and testing capabilities. Tiercon manages 5 sites across 2 cities employing approximately 550 people throughout Canada. Tiercon is seeking knowledgeable, self-directed, experienced and hardworking individuals interested in the automotive industry as a Project Engineering Lead at our 591 Arvin Ave. facility. This is an existing opening.

Job Summary & Reporting Structure:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager; indirectly to the assigned Program Manager, the Project Engineering Lead is responsible for Overseeing the Project Eng Dept (50% workload) and executing as Project Engineering (50% workload).

As Project Engineering Lead, overseeing Project Engineering, providing technical guidance, escalation and approval and ensure successful robust procedures/execution. Project Engineering assists the Program Managers to launch new programs as champion for in plant activities and ensures Secondary Equipment, Check Fixture, Paint Racks and Packaging execution as assigned. At all times, they will maintain the policies and procedures outlined in TS 16949 Quality System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

Responsibilities:

As Project Engineering Lead (Approx. 50%)

  • Lead Project Engineering department by planning, organizing and directing Project Engineering staff to meet company needs.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department, Project Engineering (PE) Role
  • Ensure successful (on time, on budget, effective) technical execution by PE.
  • Provide technical guidance, oversight and escalation and approve technical scopes for PE for procurement/execution.
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates.
  • Provide guidance on PE resource requirements for current and future Program and Project Load
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and production demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
  • Recruit employees; recommend assignments, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Ensure engineering staff knowledge and compliance with company policies.
  • Provide escalation point for program, plant, production, functional managers regarding PE conduct and effectiveness.
  • Ensure department execution and staff meet the needs of the internal customer(s).
  • Confer with management, production, and program management to discuss project specifications, standards, and procedures.

As Project Engineering (Approx. 50%)

  • Technical Support assigned Programs and ECNs
  • Execute CMM fixtures with Quality Department and Production input.
  • Execute Secondary equipment with Production Dept input.
  • Execute packaging (Service, WIP and F/G).
  • Execute paint racks with Paint Dept input.
  • Lead/execute program tasks as assigned or in Prog Manager's absence (APQP meetings, update documents, conduct paint/mould/assembly trials, requisitions).
  • Update business documents (BOM, VSM, Asset Tracking, Balance Sheet)
  • Complete/Coordinate Pre-production builds, sample, and equipment shipments
  • Validate quoting information at each APQP gate (cycle time, material cost, and accuracy).
  • Assist with new business development activities (Screen dumps, collect competing quotes, generate RFQ's).
  • Lead or participate with other departments in identifying and analyzing non-conformances or production/quality problems; and developing, implementing and verifying corrective action.
  • Special Projects/Initiatives as assigned.
  • Practice and promote continuous improvement in all areas of work.
  • Perform duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • Education: University Engineering Degree or College Diploma; Mechanical, Chemical, or equivalent
  • Training: APQP Process, Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Office, CAD), Root Cause Analysis, Complex Mathematics, Leadership, Self Motivated, Decision Making, GD&T.
  • Skills: Demonstrated: Training, Supervision, Communication, Performance & Department Management, Project Management, Root Cause Analysis, Utilize Computer Programs to support activities, Strong Mechanical Assembly, Dimensional
  • Equivalent Experience: Minimum 10 years' experience in plastics/painting/assembly automotive production environment in engineering role. Minimum 5 yrs in launch engineering role. Supervision/Management experience an asset.
