Job Summary:

The Large Format Operator is responsible for producing complete specialized of large format print projects in compliance with job specifications and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures. Coordinates workload schedule to meet customer time frame requirements while achieving optimum productivity. Performs daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on equipment to ensure optimum output. Works closely with other team members to exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

General and Administrative:

  • Coordinate with the Large Format Team, Large Format Supervisor, Team Lead to produce and prioritize jobs and, when necessary, reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.
  • Comply with all OHSA safety requirements and Companys health and safety policies.
  • Participate as a key player in the Production Team by supporting operations as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with the Large Format Supervisor, other members of the Production Team and Production Coordinator informing and updating them regularly to meet customers requirements.
  • Follow systems and procedures outlined in the Corporate Policy Manual.

Large Format Operations:

  • Set-up, maintain and operate large/wide format presses and/or cutter for the production of all types of commercial printing.
  • Set-up, maintain all digital cutting machines in order to complete as noted on the work order.
  • Responsible for timely and quality output of all assigned jobs from docket review to inventory.
  • Retrieve the correct work order and load the appropriate material as per work order.
  • Inspect all printed and cut products, ensuring quality standards are maintained and comply with clients and companys specifications as noted on the work order.
  • Minimize and highly conscious of material waste and usage.
  • Loading and refilling media and inkjet for printing of the job order.
  • Maintain safe working conditions in the large format area with regards to equipment, chemicals and other materials used.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns, conduct minor repairs, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Control and adjust machine settings when required.
  • Notify Large Format Supervisor and/or Team Lead of any quantity or quality issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Equipment and Supplies:

  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area following maintenance procedures and update maintenance logs.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of large format supplies; order and stock as instructed by the Large Format supervisor.
  • Inform supervisor of machine/equipment problems.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of demonstrated knowledge of printing machines (HP, Agfa, Flatbed, Roll to Roll)
  • High school diploma/GED with experience or vocational/technical certification.
  • Previous print and/or Large/Wide format presses knowledge/experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience in operating machinery is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills e.g. working well with others, communication, positive attitude.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Good written, verbal and mathematical skills.
  • Good Attention to detail and hand eye coordination.
  • Able to work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Able to apply written instructions to machine set-up and maintenance.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality and attention to workstation.
  • Meet or exceed minimum test results as specified by the hiring manager.

Working Conditions:

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day.
  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and twisting is required.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
  • Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder.
  • Fast-paced environment subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
  • Additional hours may be required due to operational requirements.
