This is a remote role but the preferred location is for the candidate to be based in Ottawa.

The Cloud Architect is responsible for building and leading the solution framework for cloud computing initiatives, including greenfield cloud-native solutions, as well as converting legacy applications to cloud-native and reactive architecture.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of cloud engineering and architecture best practices, as well as experience modernization and migration of legacy applications to the cloud. As a Cloud Architect, the individual will manage the customer's future transition from on-premise environments into public cloud/hybrid-cloud architectures. You will participate in deep architectural discussions to build confidence and ensure customer success when building new, or migrating existing, applications, software and services on the Google Cloud Platform.

NOTE: This position requires the applicant to either have a Government of Canada security clearance at the level of 'Secret', or to be willing and eligible to apply for 'Secret' level security clearance (i.e. has at least 10 years of continuous residency in Canada).

The successful candidates will have:

    • A subject matter expert with deep cloud technical expertise (ideally 3+ years of experience)
    • Experience with Google Cloud Platform is strongly preferred, however extensive experience with other public cloud providers such as Azure and AWS may be sufficient
    • Solid understanding of cloud computing and technology systems, as well as experience designing and transferring applications to the cloud
    • Experience in architecting, developing and/or maintaining production-grade systems
    • Experience building application migration roadmaps (the various stages and steps from lift and shift to complete cloud-native and reactive application)
    • Previous experience with implementation and deployment of cloud landing zones, including 3rd-party identity provider integration, organizational hierarchy design, and validation of security controls.
    • Understanding multi-tier architectures, Google Cloud load balancers, scale sets, and databases
    • Understanding of High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Multi-Zonal architecture with Availability Zones and Global Regions, cloud migrations, advanced networking skills
    • Solid experience with workload containerization, container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, GKE, Cloud Run), and reactive microservices architecture
    • Experience in virtualization, multi-tenant cloud infrastructures, storage systems, and content delivery network
    • Hands-on experience with implementation of CI/CD pipelines (Cloud Build,etc) using Terraform or similar IaC technologies
    • Strong knowledge of the Linux operating system, and ability to work from the command line, leveraging shell scripting where needed (Bash, Python, etc.)
    • Experience with monitoring and logging tools
    • Good understanding of cloud security architecture, security assessments and audit standards for the Cloud
    • Familiarity with DevOps and SRE best practices and culture
