Position Overview
We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to join our team and oversee the Centre's core operations. This role will ensure the smooth functioning of internal processes, optimize resource management, and support the overall growth and sustainability of the organization.

The Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Centre, ensuring that all systems and processes are functioning efficiently. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will lead the operational strategy, support key program initiatives, and foster collaboration across departments. The position will oversee critical areas, including Human Resource functions, union relations, procurement, vendor management, grant writing, funder management, and more.


About Us
The Gilbert Centre is a registered, not-for-profit charitable organization incorporated in 1995 in response to the HIV epidemic in Simcoe County and Muskoka Region. The mandate of the Centre has since broadened to not only support people at risk of, living with, and affected by HIV and other sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBIs), but to also support and celebrate the lives of the 2S- LGBTQ+ communities in our regions.

The Gilbert Centre takes a broad, social determinants approach to our work that is based in social justice, health equity and human rights. We operate from a value system of harm reduction, sex positivity, queer and trans inclusion, and work towards greater anti-oppressive practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations, including resource management, financial tracking, and compliance with policies and legal standards.
  • Drive initiatives in the management team and organizationally that contribute to long-term operational excellence.
  • Lead and manage union negotiations, ensuring positive labor relations and adherence to collective agreements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure efficient procurement processes.
  • Administer employee health benefits, working closely with fellow management to ensure staff well-being.
  • Support the Executive Director and leadership team in strategic planning and organizational development.
  • Collaborate with program managers to ensure operational support for program delivery and evaluations.
  • Coordinate grant writing, funder reporting, and management of external funding streams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee external communications, including website management, social media, and outreach initiatives.
  • Supervision and performance management of administrative personnel.
  • Lead and develop social enterprise activities, such as professional development services and the Centre's merchant site, contributing to the Centre's sustainability.
  • Engages in professional development, collaboration, networking, and relationship building with relevant networks and contacts.
  • Contributes to the home-like atmosphere of the Gilbert Centre through interacting with participants, Ambassadors, volunteers, and participates in community programming activities when available.
  • Collaborates with management and other GC staff on projects and activities that strengthen the Centre's programs and services, including team meetings and organizational events.
  • Other administrative and operational duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Education in a relevant field of study, including business administration, management, and leadership.
  • 3+ years of experience in operations management, preferably within a non-profit or charitable organization, or related work experience.
  • Experience with union negotiations and labor relations.
  • Strong financial and resource management skills, including budget tracking and grant management.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and vendor management.
  • Proven experience in overseeing Human Resource functions, including health benefits administration and performance management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle external communications, grant writing, and reporting.
  • Experience managing digital platforms (websites, social media) and community outreach initiatives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Knowledge of social enterprise activities and their contribution to non-profit sustainability is an asset. strong commitment to the Gilbert Centre's mission and values, including a passion for social justice and community engagement.
  • Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on approach to operations management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • A high degree of organizational and time management skills, with a focus on results-driven outcomes.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Proficiency in French (written and verbal) would be an asset.

Compensation:

  • $55,000-57,000 salaried at 35 hours / week
  • Canada Life Benefits – Health, Dental, Vision, Drugs
  • Starting PTO: 3 weeks' Vacation, 3 weeks' Sick, and 1 week Float.
