POSITION SUMMARY:

As a pivotal member of our Publications and Product Training Team, the Technical Documentation Specialist plays a vital role in creating and maintaining comprehensive service and maintenance manuals for our bus products. Reporting to the Senior Technical Editor, this role requires meticulous research, data analysis, and technical writing to ensure all manuals are accurate and up-to-date.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • In this role you will research, compile, and assemble manual sections by analyzing engineering Bill of Materials (BOMs), supplier documents, product photos, engineering specifications, and technical drawings. Develop a deep understanding of how components integrate to form complete bus systems and assess the impact of design changes on documentation. Create detailed and user-friendly documentation to enhance the usability and effectiveness of service manuals.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, part suppliers, and stakeholders to verify the accuracy and completeness of technical data. Maintain and organize records of supplier data requests, track progress, and ensure timely and accurate data collection. Proactively identify data gaps and initiate corrective actions to address discrepancies.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple research packages, ensuring alignment with project strategies, deadlines, and deliverables. Facilitate the seamless transfer of information to the illustration team and coordinate with other departments to support manual production. Develop and implement project plans to ensure documentation tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of technical data to identify and rectify inaccuracies, ensuring documentation remains precise and current. Implement and monitor quality control processes to maintain high standards of documentation accuracy.
  • Assign and manage part numbers for new OEM supplier parts, ensuring consistency and accuracy in documentation. Update and manage part number databases and related documentation.
  • Stay updated with industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies to enhance documentation processes. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of more efficient documentation practices.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESFUL:

  • Minimum of two years of experience interpreting manufacturing BOMs and engineering drawings, ideally within the heavy equipment or automotive industry. Demonstrated expertise in technical documentation, including familiarity with document lifecycle management and revision control processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to producing accurate and high-quality technical documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with engineering teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of technical document management systems and revision control processes. Experience with technical writing tools and software.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, managing multiple tasks and projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong mechanical understanding and familiarity with complex systems, such as buses, and how components integrate.
  • Familiarity with Oracle BOMs, engineering data management systems such as Team Center. Experience in sourcing vendor data and managing cross-functional data integration projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing requirements and solve complex problems in a dynamic environment. Proven track record of taking initiative and driving solutions to completion.
