Position Summary
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, mostly 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday; some weekend and holiday work may be required.
Reporting to: Water Plant Manager
Department: Public Works
The Water & Wastewater Maintenance Worker works closely with the Water Plant Manager and other members of the Public Works team to maintain consistent operation of the water and sewer distribution, collection, and treatment systems of Tla'amin Nation.
Key Responsibilities
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla'amin laws, regulations, policies, practices and procedures as directed by the Water Plant Manager. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to Citizens, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.
Labour and Maintenance
- Repairs of water and sewer collection, distribution, and treatment systems.
- General labour associated with water, wastewater, drainage, roads and buildings.
- Operational maintenance of water and sewer distribution, collection, and treatment systems.
- Operating machinery, vehicles, and equipment as needed.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Preparation and submission of regulatory documentation.
- Daily sampling and recording for quality control supporting industry regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Training, Education, Experience
- Grade 12 Education minimum.
- Acceptable Police Information Check.
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License and acceptable driver's abstract.
- Must be willing to undergo necessary training & educational opportunities related to water & wastewater work.
- Experience operating machinery is an asset.
- Experience working with electrical & mechanical systems is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Problem-solving, creative thinking, and initiative skills an asset.
- Basic computer skills (word processing, data entry).
- Mechanically inclined.
- Physically fit – ability to work most of the day on your feet, and ability to lift 30 to 40 lbs. on occasion.
- Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Enjoy hands-on work in the field.
- Genuine respect for Tla'amin Nation's history and culture, and care for the safety of our Citizens.
Working Conditions
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Sometimes will need to work alone. May be required to come in on evenings or weekends as needed for emergency and scheduled shifts.
