Position Summary:

Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the Wastewater Operator role will take ownership of all process aspects of the Wastewater, Scrubber and Decanting operations, including preventative maintenance, while following all site Health, Safety & Environmental policies and initiatives.

POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Wastewater/Scrubber Air treatment:

  • Manage and operate the WWTP equipment which includes a packed bed wet scrubber and venturi, along with two wastewater DAF's operating in series
  • Makes process changes utilizing manual data, instrumentation readings and visual inspections; troubleshooting as needed
  • Collaborating with other departments such as production, maintenance and fleet to help ensure effective wastewater treatment.
  • Manage chemical dosing systems to maintain high process performance, regulatory compliance, and minimal operating costs.
  • Maintain and record data in WWTP shift report, PM checklists
  • Collects/Tests water samples, including jar testing, to ensure process accuracy and treatment efficiency
  • Inform Environmental Supervisor on all important operational, environmental and safety issues and events in a timely manner.

Used Cooking Oil Decanting:

  • Heating & pumping off city and rural grease trailers, drums and pails. Some lifting and manoeuvring inherent.
  • Ensure all paperwork for Grease Receiving Procedures and Grease Processing is properly organized.
  • Operate Grease processing equipment, including a centrifuge, collect samples for impurities testing, perform Quality Control testing on decanting samples

General

  • Ensure Wastewater Treatment Plant, Grease processing equipment, and surrounding areas are kept tidy at all times. Performs routine plant cleaning during assigned shift.
  • Loads, unloads and stores materials, chemicals, and supplies; check chemical inventory and inform the Environmental Supervisor of needed chemicals and supplies.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments in a supportive capacity. May be required to help other departments from time-to-time.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of wastewater, scrubber, venturi, decanting operation SOP's.
  • Assist Shift Supervisors/ production staff in plant troubleshooting as
  • Support environmental health and safety initiatives through hazard reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Safety-first mindset
  • University degree or Class 1 Wastewater Certification is considered an asset, or ability to pass the certification exam within 6 months of hire date
  • Flexible and calm temperament to manage a fast-paced environment
  • 2 to 3 years' operating experience.
  • Good initiative and strong team player.
  • Self-motivated and capable of delivering outcomes with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work nights and weekends, 12-hr shifts
  • Must have the ability to lift, push and pull between 10 to 70 pounds

  • Hourly wage (starting) = $29.20
  • Hourly wage (w/ Class one) = $31.20
  • Evening ($0.85/hr), Weekend ($1.25/hr) premiums
