We are looking for exceptional talent to join our Property Claims team here at Gore Mutual. Joining us will provide you with a unique opportunity where you will be part of a team that makes a real impact in an evolving industry.
As a Property Field Appraiser, you will be an essential part of our Claims team, managing the assessment, estimation, and bid/tender process for significant losses. Your role involves visiting loss sites across Ontario to scope and document damages and prepare detailed estimates / scopes. Please note that travel outside of Ontario may be required, depending on claim volume and location.
What will you do?
- Conduct on-site inspections and prepare appraisal reports that include but are not limited to ACV, RVC reserving, extent of damage and the quantum associated with emergency and rebuild for both residential and commercial buildings.
- Expand focus beyond your immediate scope of work to identify potential risk indicators or underwriting concerns related to the policy.
- Review all building estimates to ensure they are cost-appropriate and comply with established estimating standards. This may involve third-party evaluations or remote appraisals, especially for geographically dispersed risk locations.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as but not limited to claims adjusters, contractors, professional experts, and underwriters.
- Effectively communicate your appraisal findings, repair recommendations, and cost estimates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Record all estimate deviations, track vendor trends, and report concerns to the National Manager, Vendor and Appraisal Services
- Participate in large loss committee meetings to provide valuable insights on industry/market trends and cost analysis
- Assist with catastrophe events, which may involve travel outside Ontario, conducting on-site visits, creating estimates, and developing action plans.
What will you need to succeed?
- A minimum of 7 years' Claims experience.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in Property Appraisal, Project Manager, or a Large Loss Estimator role.
- Professional Quantity Surveyor designation considered an asset.
- Proficiency in time management and organization skills.
- Demonstrate innovative problem-solving skills in developing on-site action plans for project scope and engaging effectively with external stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate and document appraisal findings, recommendations, and negotiate with stakeholders.
- Proficiency in assessing property damage, estimating repair or replacement costs, and determining total loss qualifications.
- Familiarity with industry-standard estimation software and tools used to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates.
- In-depth knowledge of bid/tender process for large losses, including the ability to evaluate bids, negotiate pricing, and select appropriate vendors.
