Katzie First Nation, known as the "Land of the Moss," is seeking a dedicated and experienced Finance Director to join our team. We are committed to upholding our cultural heritage and traditions while ensuring the financial health and sustainability of our community.

Why This Role Matters:

The Finance Director will oversee the overall financial management, reporting, controllership, and strategic financial planning for Katzie First Nation (KFN). This role ensures compliance with KFN's laws, plans, policies, standards, procedures, and applicable external statutes, regulations, and agreements. The Finance Director will report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

What You'll Do:

  • Provide financial leadership, direction, and support to the KFN Chief and Council in planning, managing, and reporting KFN's financial affairs.
  • Support Program and Department Directors in managing program operations, funding agreements, and budget planning.
  • Hire and manage external support for accounting and auditing standards, best practices, and ethical financial issues in line with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Handbook.
  • Assist senior staff with financial reporting requirements.
  • Lead recruitment and selection of Finance Department employees and independent contractors.
  • Oversee year-end audit preparations and support external auditors in compiling annual financial statements and reports.
  • Present annual audited financial statements and reports to the Chief and Council, and KFN membership as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Management Board (FMB) on financial standards and best practices.
  • Develop, document, and maintain financial systems, policies, procedures, directions, and internal controls.
  • Ensure all financial records are current, accurate, and transparent.
  • Monitor and prepare cash forecasts.
  • Review and advise on banking facilities, financial institution accounts, and financial service agreements.
  • Oversee major financial transactions and loan agreements, providing recommendations for further review or approval.
  • Ensure adequate property, liability, and other insurance for KFN and its entities.
  • Provide financial support for the administration of the KFN Emergency Operation Center.
  • Execute KFN's financial strategy in alignment with policies, plans, and vision statements.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable legislation, laws, and accounting principles.
  • Respect and uphold Katzie First Nations culture, language, heritage, and traditions.
  • Participate in internal and external training as required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Current CPA designation with Chartered Professional Accountants British Columbia.
  • 10+ years of experience in a senior financial managerial position.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adagio.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship-building, influencing, consensus-building, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning.
  • Ability to lead by example with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle political issues tactfully and provide professional recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team framework.
  • Previous experience in leading a team and recognizing individual learning styles.
  • Demonstrated respect for Katzie First Nations culture and protocols.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and urban communities.
  • High level of attention to confidentiality.
  • Genuine interest in lifelong learning and professional development.

Other Requirements:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation is an asset.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
