POSITION PROFILE:
The Health and Safety Coordinator promotes safety attitudes and safe work practices and environments. The Health and Safety Coordinator also manages, maintains, and administers the COR and Health and Safety program with the objective of minimizing accidents, injuries, illness, and damage to property, material, and the environment.

The Health and Safety Coordinator also manages, maintains, and administers the COR and Health and Safety program with the objective of minimizing accidents, injuries, illness, and damage to property, material, and the environment.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, organize, manage, maintain, and administer the Companys Health and Safety Program
- Participate as an active member of the Health and Safety Committee in their home branch
- Coordinate, manage and maintain all requirements for the Companys COR Certification and all health and safety related policies and procedures
- Manage and update customers on-line health and safety management sites
- Educate Managers and Supervisors on how to control hazards to prevent injuries, illnesses, and damage to property, material, and the environment
- Develop formal hazard assessments for new tasks and review existing assessments following accidents or injuries
- Provide guidance and assist in investigating unsafe conditions and accidents
- Educate employees on health and safety in the workplace and conduct new employee safety training within the scope of his/her experience and certification
- Record and submit all WSIB, WCB, and WorkSafe BC claims
- Work closely with the HR Generalist to communicate and coordinate all new work injury claims
- Be familiar with Workers Compensation Board regulations and policies and provide support
- Ensure all reports/documentation are completed and files maintained for all Company locations: Minutes of monthly JHSC, Monthly Inspections, Injury/Illness/Near Misses, First Aid Log, Yearly Safety Statistics, Employee Safety Performance, and WCB, WSIB, and WorkSafe BC claims
- Complete health and safety information on ISNetworld, Comply Works, Contractor, Avetta, and VendorPM platforms
- Participated in and support Health and Safety Committee (HSC) meetings and health and safety audits across Canada (AB, BC and ON)
- Audit internal processes related to health and safety regulations on a regular basis (COR Audit certified)
- Maintain the WHMIS program, including current Safety Data Sheets and staff training
- Provide Certificates of Insurance and WSIB/WCB certificates for customers when requested
- Identify first aid and safety training requirements, make recommendations to Safety Committees, and schedule training as approved and required
- Maintain certified COR auditor status and complete internal audits as required
- Monitor and advise on legislative and technical changes relating to health and safety
- Assist in the development, coordination, and maintenance of emergency preparedness plans
- Maintain good relationships with location Managers and Health and Safety contacts throughout the Company to ensure all workers comply with safety legislation while at work
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of NHSA Designation, or related program, a definite asset
- Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience in Health and Safety, preferably in an industrial setting
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, OSHA, Provincial and Federal regulations and standards
- Experience managing workplace injury reporting and return-to-work process
- Able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
- Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
- Able to conduct training programs and facilitate group presentations
- Plan and organize own work activities, manage work time efficiently, work independently
- Possess proven complex analytical skills as well as able to develop sound recommendations and solutions
- Demonstrated accountability and responsibility for independent judgment and successful outcomes
- Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sedentary physical demand level
- Light strength occasional lifting of up to 10kg
- Hand and finger dexterity required
- Occasional standing and walking about the office required
- Limited bending, light lifting, stretching, twisting, or climbing is required
