Department: Transportation & Operations Services
Hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Sunday to Thursday 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM for Winter Operations (night shift).
Salary: $29.21 per hour plus a shift premium as applicable
Union: CUPE
PURPOSE & SCOPE :
Reporting to Supervisors within the Transportation & Operations Department, the General Operator position is responsible for completing tasks and operating equipment noted in the Duties and Responsibilities and assigned by the Supervisors to ensure that the municipal road system and related municipal properties are maintained safely and reliably.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effectively operate equipment as listed below
- Effectively perform all tasks assigned below
- Erect construction traffic signs in the municipal road system in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and any Municipal By-laws.
- Perform general labour and work activities as required; including operating, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining municipal assets.
- Be courteous to the public and show respect for equipment.
- Be aware of and follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all City policies relative to the Department.
- Truck operator, waste site operator, concrete saw, downtown cleaning; sidewalk machine, tractor, bobcat, lawn mower, roller, paint machine operations.
EDUCATION / SPECIALIZED TRAINING / SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid DZ License with an Air Brake Certificate and a clean driving record.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act Regulations relative to signage and pavement markings
- Comprehensive knowledge of municipal urban, semi-urban and/or rural infrastructure matters
- Demonstrated ability to operate the equipment listed above.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two (2) years' experience in a construction based working environment operating equipment.
- Experience in municipal urban, semi-urban and/or rural infrastructure matters including equipment utilized in the road system.
