We're looking for a mission-driven Braille Embossing and Duplication Technician
who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.
Your Impact at CNIB- Emboss electronic Braille files produced by volunteers and staff.
- Provide technical support to staff and volunteers on all aspects of both hardware and software required to create hard copy Braille output, including DBT, Everest, Braillo embossers, cutter, laminator, bursting and binding equipment.
- Responsible for technical support and training for Production Operative staff on all aspects of both hardware and software required to create audio compact discs including Microtech duplicators.
- Assisting with digital device downloads and training.
- Assist in the production of documents in Braille Duplication, including quality checks, collation, binding and assembly.
- Creating Print Braille editions, including embossing, binding, assembly, quality checks.
- Maintain and conduct routine maintenance on all equipment in the Braille Duplication area and CD Duplication area.
- Service and repair CD duplicators and Braille embossers.
- Cross-train other staff on machine learning, maintenance, embossing practices and procedures.
- Track and meet production deadlines and targets.
- Learn and teach basic braille knowledge (CNIB will provide the braille reading training).
- Provide and present tours of the embossing area.
- Report to senior leaders on targets, projects, and milestones.
Requirements
Who you are:Education and Certifications
- Secondary school diploma
Experience and Qualifications
- Five years of related work experience operating machines and working with software and hardware.
- Two years of team lead experience is an asset, to assist with training others on operating machines, overseeing troubleshooting efforts and advising on best practices for problem resolution, fostering a collaborative environment, tracking task progress and adjusting priorities as needed to meet timelines, resolving production queues, suggesting and implementing changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and acting as a liaison between the team and other departments.
- Excellent working knowledge of desk-top applications, with particular emphasis on file management.
- Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.
- Braille Reading Course is required and may be learned at work.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications, with particular emphasis on file management.
- Familiarity with Braille production software, embossers, bursting and binding equipment an asset.
- Familiarity with machine repair and technical maintenance.
- Familiarity with CD production software, duplicators and DAISY players an asset, or ability to learn about new technology and equipment quickly.
- Detailed oriented, well organized, able to change priorities to meet deadlines.

Work Environment
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Work will involve lifting of heavy equipment (30 pounds).
- Standing for extended periods of time to operate machinery.
