Simaril Supported Living is an agency that supports adults living with intellectual disabilities and other co-occurring challenges.

Our Outreach and Supported Independent Living Programs are looking for a dynamic Outreach Support Mentor who is fluent in ASL to work at our agency.

  • Connecting with community resources (foodbanks, clothing resources etc)
  • Attending medical appointments
  • Managing medication regimes
  • Grocery Shopping
  • Learning how to take the bus
  • Bill payments & money management
  • Support to acquire & maintain a productive role (work, volunteer, programming, etc.)
  • Accessing programming
  • Recreational Opportunities (skating, swimming or sporting events)
  • Group programming opportunities
  • Meal preparation & Cooking
  • Cleaning & maintaining your home
  • Emotional Support
  • Crisis Support

What will your shift look like as an Outreach Support Mentor:

Your day as an Outreach Support Mentor will include meeting with 3 – 5 people on your shift. You will provide 1:1 support to individuals within the SIL, Outreach and Respite programs, both in their home and in the community.

Even though you are working one on one with the people you support, you are not alone! The Outreach Support Mentor works collaboratively with other team members to ensure that the needs identified within the support plans are met and to empower individuals to achieve their goals.

What you need to have to work as an Outreach Support Mentor:

  • High School Diploma (minimum)
  • Some post-secondary courses in the social services field (preferred)
  • 2 years' experience working with adults with an intellectual disability.
  • Knowledge of disabilities, disorders, and mental health issues.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advocacy.
  • Flexibility.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) to support individuals who are Deaf and Blind.

Other important Requirements for working in this role:

  • Valid Manitoba Driver's License with Satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
  • Use of a safe vehicle for work purposes
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector checked
  • Adult Abuse Registry Check,
  • Child Abuse Registry Check,
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is required.
  • Experience providing personal care is an asset.

Preference may be given to candidates that have the following:

  • Experience working with Mental Health
  • Experience working with Addictions.
  • Experience working within the Justice System
  • Experience working with people with Co-occurring disabilities.

Due to the ongoing growth of our department and the type of supports we are providing; we are currently looking for candidates to join our Supported Independent Living team.

Our shifts range within the following hours every day: 9 am until 11 pm in the evening – We provide supports every day of the week and love applicants that have an OPEN AVAILABILITY!
