West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our High-Level Division in Alberta is currently recruiting for a Journeyperson Electrician.

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Journeyperson Electrician will be a key player in the company-wide continuous improvement effort through daily use of troubleshooting, and predictive, preventive maintenance strategies.

What You'll Do:

  • Complete routes, PMS, emergency work orders, corrective work, Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs), safety procedures, shift coverage and ongoing training.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning machinery and discuss malfunctions with other maintenance workers, to promote a team environment.
  • Diagnose, install, repair and maintain various types and sizes of electrical equipment such as Electrical Circuit Board
  • Participate in “RCA” (Root Cause Analysis) after a mechanical failure or as requested.
  • Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as conveyors and programmable equipment.
  • Replace faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, motors, and position sensing devices.
  • Create program changes on the PLC and HMI as required and record all changes.
  • Learn process flow to assist with troubleshooting.
  • Complete reports and checklists as required.
  • Operate on high voltage equipment and motors (4160V).
  • Execute QJSA (Quick Job Safety Analysis) and sign for each job task.
  • Accountable for tools used from the Tool Crib, along with keeping them clean, and returning them in a timely manner. They are responsible for reporting any missing, broken, or damaged tools to the stores department for repairing or replacing.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with health and safety practices, and use of personal protective equipment

Who You Are:

  • At minimum, registered as a 4th year Apprentice; Full Certification is considered a strong asset

Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with GE and Allen-Bradley PLC systems, AC & DC drives, and Wonderware including programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance to ensure reliable automation
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members, ensuring clear understanding of electrical needs and project updates
  • Well organized with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks
  • Familiarity with reading blueprints, equipment manuals, prints and schematics
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify automation opportunities and design efficient solutions
  • Personal Commitment to safety
  • Experience in the forestry or manufacturing industry is considered an asset.
