SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Western Canada, the Branch Manager is responsible for the branch's profitability and sets the strategic direction for the branch. The position focuses on managing internal business processes to support all functions within the branch. The Branch Manager's responsibilities are categorized into four areas: financial, sales, operations, and people management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial

  • Under the guidance of the Director, accountable for the profit/loss of the branch.
  • With the Director, prepares the annual branch operating budgets (sales and expenses) and regularly monitors actual levels against budget.
  • Work with the Director to ensure the achievement of financial targets.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans for the branch that ensure the attainment of branch goals and annual targets.
  • Plan and establish systems to control expenses at the branch location.

Sales

  • Develop and coach the Inside Sales Manager, Outside Sales Manager, and Commodity Manager to meet or exceed sales goals by defining strategies, promoting national programs, offering excellent customer service, achieving accuracy with orders, and increasing the dollar value of orders.

Warehouse Operations and Safety

Warehouse Operations

Provide strategic direction to achieve and maintain an efficient and safe warehouse, while meeting customer service levels and achieving inventory integrity in collaboration with National Services.

  • On an ongoing basis, work with the Operations Manager on procedures to achieve and maintain customer service order levels and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Ensure processes are in place to review invoices, work orders, and demand forecasts to estimate peak delivery periods and to staff appropriately.
  • Ensure compliance with WCB regulations and meeting Doman safety guidelines.
  • Ensure ongoing benchmarking with other Doman branches to share best practices.

Facilities Management

  • Responsible for upkeep and security of building and warehouse.

People Management

With eight direct reports performing the day-to-day functions, the Branch Manager is indirectly responsible for approximately 40 employees.

  • Create and maintain a positive, productive, and transparent teamwork environment.
  • Manage and develop direct reports.
  • Conduct performance reviews regularly.
  • When needed, comfortable with conducting difficult conversations with employees.
  • Working closely with Human Resources, address employee issues fairly and consistently.
  • Lead the negotiations for collective agreement bargaining and manages union grievances.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Experience

  • A track record of success as an accomplished manager with profit/loss responsibility of a small to mid-sized business
  • Experience in industrial distribution, building industry or related experience is a definite asset

  • Experience preparing and operating stand-alone budgets

Education

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business

Computer Skills

  • Proficient with Word, Excel, ERP, and CRM

Other

  • Driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Passport; able to enter the United States and other countries.
