United Engineering Ltd. (a Ralmax Group Company) has an immediate opening for a full-time Machinist at our machine shop in Victoria, British Columbia. UEL's Machine shop is equipped with some of the largest equipment on Vancouver Island. Our scope of work includes new builds, field mechanical and machining and equipment rebuilds. Machinists at UEL are responsible for operation of manual and CNC equipment as required to achieve precise dimensions on finished parts in accordance with supplied drawings, technical documentation and verbal instructions. In addition, Machinists are responsible for troubleshooting, teardown, repair and assembly of industrial equipment in accordance with customer requirements. They will have the ability to operate a variety of manual heavy machining equipment, hand tools, cranes and mobile equipment in order to perform assigned tasks.

Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical disassembly/assembly as required to repair equipment.
- Set-up and operate lathes, milling machines, boring mills, line boring equipment.
- Follow procedures to achieve precise dimensions in accordance with specifications.
- Read and interpret drawings, technical documentation, verbal instructions and determine machining processes and sequence of operations to be performed in order to achieve customer requirements.
- Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, verniers, dial indicators.
- Calculate cutting speeds, hole layouts, dimensions, tolerances and determine tooling requirements required to machine various grades of material.
- Complete any required documentation
- Clean and maintain equipment
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Red Seal Journeyman Machinist trade certificate an asset.
- Experience operating manual machines in a job shop environment as asset.
- Experienced in jobber shop repair environment as asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals and drawing, written procedures, and verbal instructions
- Ability to manage complex machining tasks with a high level of productivity and accuracy
- Ability to follow all Company policies and procedures, including safety
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required
Requirements
- Must possess a selection of basic hand tools i.e. basic mechanical tools, measurements tools 6" dia. and under
- Must possess a current and valid driver's license
- Must be willing to work overtime as required
- Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, climb ladders, and walk on varied terrain
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Work Conditions:
- Manual machining and custom repair work environment
- Occasionally required to go on board marine vessels and to customer sites
- Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
- Safety equipment such as coveralls, hi-vis vest, hardhat, glasses and gloves are provided
- Measurement tools greater than 6" and up are provided
- Regularly perform repetitive tasks
- Possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Will be required to occasionally work outdoors in the elements
