Job Summary
The Asset Protection Specialist is primarily responsible for preventing financial loss caused by theft and fraud and supporting safety and environmental program compliance in their assigned region. They utilize tools to minimize loss to our clients, including but not limited to identifying incidents of theft and fraud, reviewing CCTV and exception reports, monitoring the client's physical security, auditing and driving a shrink elimination culture.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Detect and assist with the apprehension of people or persons committing theft and fraud against client stores.
- Complete the prosecution process: report to police, case reports, attend court and testify as required. Report alert signals indicating possible internal dishonesty to the appropriate members of Asset Protection team.
- Investigate, identify, and report issues regarding external theft and shrink causing issues affecting client stores, to the appropriate members of the AP team and ORC Investigator.
- Develop effective partnerships with other Loss Prevention members, store management and outside agencies including the Police, Mall Security and AP Peers.
- Dissemination of appropriate intelligence to AP team and ORC Investigator. Maintain accurate report records and case building documentation. Support the ORC investigator and AP team with store blitzes and surveillance.
- Review and archive CCTV surveillance.
- Input and document theft incident into company case management systems.
- Complete monthly and quarterly reports for AP team.
- Maintain KPI log. Appearance must be professional and within guidelines of assignment requirements.
- Follow all local, provincial, and federal laws while providing investigation services.
Required Skills/Abilities
- High School education or equivalent required
- One year retail supervisor experience or similar training preferred.
- One year loss prevention/security training preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with the Store team.
- Excellent Customer service skills.
- Proven ability to effectively resolve conflict.
- Must be able to comply with all applicable federal and provincial laws and regulations for security positions, including but not limited to, additional background screening, physical examination, fingerprinting and/or drug and alcohol testing.
Education and Experience
- High School education or equivalent required, College degree in Criminal Justice, Police Service or related fields preferred.
- One year retail supervisor experience or similar training preferred.
- One year loss prevention/security training preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with the Store team.
- Excellent Customer service skills.
- Proven ability to effectively resolve conflict.
- Ontario Security Guard License required.
Physical Requirements
With or without reasonable accommodation, requires the physical and mental capacity to effectively perform all essential functions. In addition to other demands, the demands of the job include:
- Ability to patrol the property and access areas quickly.
- Physically able to capture and detain individuals if necessary.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
