The Opportunity
SLGA is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented, innovative, and collaborative Director, Strategy and Business Improvement, to provide strategic leadership and direction to the Strategy and Business Improvement Branch. The Director, Strategy and Business Improvement is responsible for strategic planning, enterprise project management and business improvement initiatives, through program reviews, innovation, portfolio project management and governance, business analysis and corporate process management, and change management. As part of the executive team, this position helps ensure the integration of key strategic initiatives, namely Business Improvement, Culture, Strategic Planning, Customer Service, and Organizational Change Management.
Reporting to the President & CEO, SLGA, the successful candidate will:
  • Lead and facilitate the Corporate Project Management Committee to select and oversee strategic initiatives.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the corporate strategies in the three key functional areas – strategic planning, enterprise project management and business improvement, and provide direction to branch staff responsible for the execution of these strategies across SLGA, within all core business areas of liquor retailing, gaming and regulatory.
  • Provide framework development and oversight to the operational and strategic planning, project management, and business improvement models within SLGA, ensuring alignment with corporate vision, mission, values and strategic priorities.
  • Provide one-on-one advice to senior executive and program managers and provides subject matter expertise and knowledge.
  • Ensure all divisions of SLGA develop action plans for executing SLGA's corporate strategies to strive towards achieving the corporate vision and mandate.
  • Report to the Board of Directors and Senior Management on corporate planning, project management and improvement initiatives and action plans including metric development to ensure corporate strategies are achieved and aligned to Government goals and objectives.
  • Lead SLGA's strategic deployment efforts as they relate to the Government of Saskatchewan Accountability Framework, including oversight of monitoring and reporting.
  • Oversee the development of guidelines, templates, toolkits and examples, etc. to meet customer needs.
  • Direct and oversee research and recommend improvements to methods of planning, performance, improvement and innovation.
  • Lead the team to deliver on mandate and branch plan.
  • Create and sustain a client-focused and high performing culture.

Who we're looking for:
This opportunity is for an experienced leader with a history of building strong teams and achieving results through working collaboratively. Our candidate of choice will be a proactive leader who has:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in business administration/commerce, public policy or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, including a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership role.
  • Certification in change management, project management, program management, strategic planning and deployment and/or continuous improvement are an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Expert business improvement and innovation skills and knowledge of frameworks, strategies and industry trends and standards of practice to grow and embed a culture of continuous improvement and excellence across the organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading strategic planning and delivery initiatives, business improvement, and managing complex relationships.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills including effective active listening skills, ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences, and delivery of presentations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities including strong analytical and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills while balancing tact and diplomacy.
