As a Sheet Metal Lead Hand, you are responsible for working with tools, organizing fabrication orders, driving a forklift, tracking and filling finished orders, and training/instructing other fabricators. You must also be able to manage priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task with ease. You value a team environment and hold strong beliefs in promoting a positive culture within that team. Job Details/Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to Shop Manager
  • Supervise 1-10 people in shop at all times
  • Daily organization of metal shop including stock, material, consumables, housekeeping issues, etc.
  • Aware of inventory and daily needs as well as projected requirements based on schedule and upcoming work
  • Control of specific tooling (sign out)
  • Inspections – daily, monthly
  • Training employees on shop equipment
  • Receiving daily work orders for shop crew
  • Helping to create shop work orders where required
  • Reporting maintenance issues
  • Following up on maintenance of equipment, etc.
  • Weekly inventory of consumables
  • Quality Control
  • Supervise and lead by example the shop workers, ensuring they utilize safe, proper, and efficient methods in fabricating products according to order specifications
  • Create and manage the production schedule (Order of which fabrication requests are prioritized
  • Oversee job flow and ensure that a quality and quantity product is shipped complete and on-time
  • Work together with management on the design and assembly of fabricated products
  • Update management, engineers, and customers as required on the status of orders
  • Oversee packaging and shipping of completed fabricated products
  • Oversee raw materials and shop supplies. Provide a requisition to purchasing for materials and shop supplies as needed. Ensure materials and shop supplies are received as ordered and without any damage
  • Assist in the shop as required, helping to move along jobs at various stations
  • Oversee material is being tagged to proper jobs
  • A self-starter and work under minimal supervision

Requirements

  • Experience with computerized work orders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based software
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Sheet Metal Experience
  • Fabrication Experience for cladding/roofing materials
  • Basic IT Knowledge /Computer Skills
  • Equipment /Plant Maintenance experience
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
