The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists in our Asset Integrity department within the Metals division for a Chief Inspector/Manager, Inspections located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The purpose of this position is to lead and oversee the execution of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS) on the Sherritt Fort Site. The Chief Inspector/Manager will act as a key authority on inspection matters, providing guidance, direction and expertise to the Inspection team and other stakeholders.

In this role, you will be accountable for:
  • Developing and overseeing the execution of the inspection business plan for regulatory compliance (ABSA) which aligns with the Fort Site Asset Management objectives.
  • Providing the Asset Integrity business plan with annual inspection budget estimates to incorporate into the Asset Management budget and long-range plan.
  • Overseeing, monitoring, and auditing the PEIMS program to ensure compliance with current regulatory requirements, alignment with global standards, and consistency with Sherritt's objectives of delivering zero harm to employees, the environment, and neighboring communities. Additionally, ensuring all applicable Health and Safety requirements are met when securing contract resources for site work.
  • Establishing and monitoring inspection KPI's in accordance with the Fort Site Asset Management objectives.
  • Developing and following the Asset Integrity best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, lean thinking and technical innovation to improve management systems.
  • Ensuring all Inspection department processes are aligned with and complement related work processes in other departments to drive consistency of work and minimize process conflicts across the organization. such as Maintenance Work Management, Capital Projects, Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance.
  • Leading, training, and managing a team of inspection staff, ensuring quality performance and adherence to the PEIMS manual.
  • Overseeing the coordination of weekly and monthly inspection schedules based on established equipment frequencies, and plant requirements.
  • Monitoring and overseeing the performance and quality of service provided by third-party contracts and relationships with NDE companies operating on the Sherritt Site.
Skills and attributes for success:
  • 10+ years of experience in Asset Integrity
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Engineering Degree (P. Eng) or Engineering Technologist Diploma (CET) designation in Chemical, Materials, Mechanical or First-Class Power Engineer Certificate
  • In-Service Pressure Equipment Inspector Certificate (ISI-BPVPP)
  • Strong understanding of jurisdictional inspection requirements (ABSA, AER, Safety Codes Act, etc.), inspection techniques and repair procedures related to pressure equipment, boilers, tanks and piping
  • Certifications: API 510, API 570, API 653, National Board Inservice Inspector Commission Exam
  • Auditing experience
  • Process design and budget planning skills
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Organizational culture building and multicultural sensitivity
  • Operational Excellence and Lean thinking management skills
