Central Interior Native Health Society (CINHS) is an innovative primary health care (PHC) center located in Prince George, British Columbia, on the unceded traditional territories of the Dakelh people. Founded on Aboriginal leadership and community-based advocacy, the CINHS was founded in 1991 to meet the unique health needs of the Indigenous population of Prince George. CINHS' core values are: respect honesty, trust, humour and compassion.

The Centre's inter-disciplinary team provides trauma-informed and culturally safe, medical and psychosocial services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

The Indigenous Support Worker position provides front line support indigenous men. The goal is with a strong filter of Indigenous culture, in-depth knowledge of mental health and addictions to support the men in overcoming barriers to a healthier and higher quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acknowledge that we are on the unceeded territory of Lheidli T'enneh
  • Facilitates a culture that honours the values of CINHS including: respect, honesty, trust, humour, and compassion
  • With an Indigenous worldview build relationships with male clients, CINHS team members and community partners
  • Transport and advocate for clients as they navigate appointments

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of what it is to be an Indigenous man with mental health and addiction issues
  • Extensive Indigenous world view knowledge
  • Extensive cultural knowledge and ability to teach
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiar with community support agencies available to men
  • Addictions certificate or equivalent education or life experience
  • Have a Class 5 Drivers License in good standing
  • Vehicle in good working condition to transport clients
  • Awareness of Aboriginal social issues
  • Asset: computer skills including experience with Word and Outlook
  • Asset: experience in comparable position
