The Heavy Duty Cleaner/Laundry Aide reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is expected to follow established policies and procedures, and in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, to perform cleaning services and routine minor repairs to assist in maintaining the home in a clean and safe manner.

Responsibilities:

Heavy duty cleaner:

  • Mixing solutions for nursing and housekeeping staff, delivering supplies, removal of garbage, stripping floors as required, cleaning windows and lights, sweeping and scrubbing areas such as janitor's closet, service entrance, laundry room, dining rooms, and elevators, performing heavy housekeeping duties and small repairs.
  • Performs outside work such as gardening, cutting grass, removing snow, and sanding or salting as required.
  • Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding continuous quality improvement, safety, environment and infection control.
  • Cooperates with other departments in such tasks as transferring residents, moving and storing supplies, and moving furniture and equipment.
  • Contributes positively to a team approach in being person-centered with one another.
  • Maintains required records and information as directed.
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints
  • Attends other committees/team meetings as requested or required.
  • Other duties as assigned or indicated in the Job Task Inventory

Laundry Aide

The Laundry Aide reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is expected to sort, wash, dry and fold linen and personal clothing and deliver laundry and personal clothing in accordance with established policies and procedures. A major part of your role as a Laundry Aide will be to actively involve residents in everyday domestic living, creating meaningful occupation and activities.

Essential Duties

  • Receives laundry and sorts according to type, condition and weight. Follows specific instructions for treatment of soiled linens. Separates loads according to classification.
  • Washes and dries laundry following instructions for machine operations, designated washing and drying times, etc. Sorts personal clothing or puts aside for repairs or ironing. Folds laundry as required, sorts and delivers to appropriate units.
  • Observes operation of machines and reports malfunctioning to Supervisor. Assists in maintaining laundry facilities, equipment and supplies. Cleans machines as required and cleans and tidies floors and laundry area.
  • Adheres to established department policies, procedures and objectives regarding quality management, safety, environment and infection control.
  • Focuses on a person centred approach whilst maintaining the organization's policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  • Some understanding of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning
  • Ability to use machinery: eg. auto scrubber, buffing machine, extraction machine
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work from the heart and make others smile
  • To show evidence of being focused on people's feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals' rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements
  • Two supervisory references required
  • COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment
  • Italian speaking an asset
